Bully Sticks? Rocco's DVM saw him chewing on his Bully Stick and literally scolded me! 😳 She told me to NEVER EVER! give him Bully Sticks because they Harbor salmonella. She suggested I toss it and not touch it with my bare hands. Wth!!! Rocco LOVES his stinky Bully Stick. She recommended CET Chews instead, so I bought a bag. They had a smoky smell to them and I thought, "wow, he's gonna love these" NOPE!! Rocco was NOT interested, had to return them, he kept looking for his Bully Stick for about 2 days straight... Has anyone here ever been told this? Is it true? I'm afraid to give them to him now. |
There was a study out of Tufts on this. I wouldn't be deterred by what your vet said after reading this. Here's the article: Misconceptions About A Popular Pet Treat | Tufts Now |
PS I don't like CET chews at all. I use Oinkies by Hartz because they smell like bacon instead of that putrid bully stick smell. I buy them at target. |
ZoE has had bullysticks for the past 4+ years. she loves them! Her vet is fine with her having them in moderation, as she is young and has really good teeth. He said the chewing and saliva production is good for her teeth. She just had her four year annual check and doesn't need a dental yet. |
 I'm really, really sorry about this...and it's only my personal opinion...but I could never bear the thought of Harry chewing away on a bull's dried up winky-woo.... :D |

When I heard bully stick I went on line to see what that was, I freaked out when I read what it was made from, gezzzz, I started my girls off on cow hooves , then the pig ears came out :eek: then snouts :eek::eek: If I could bear to look at a snout staring up at me from the floor, I can stand my boy chewing a bully stick, I get him the braided ones, at least it doesn't look like what it comes from, like the pig ears and snout lol. He is 4 y/o, prev. owner never gave him anything to chew on, I just cannot deny him this. |
Bully sticks can break teeth. I hear it often but ignored it and because of my stubbornness my dog ended up having to suffer a broken tooth. |

Some people say pig skin is high in fat. I use Oinkies rolled pig skin and they are a slow chew, not really greasy, and they have been fine for my dog who must be on very low fat. I like them better than any other chew. |
