COmmercial Dog Foods that you might want to Try I posted a list of foods you might want to avoid and why..here is the list of brands that seem to be healthy and are made or high quality human grade ingredients. They are also all Menadione free. Menadione Sodium Bisulfate, a synthetic form of Vitamin K, is an ingredient is both unnecessary and potentially harmful and has been linked to Liver cell toxicity, weakened immune systems, hemolytic anemia and jaundice, toxicity in high doses, irritation to the skin and mucous membranes, and allergic reactions and eczema. As with ANYTHING your pet ingests.please consult YOUR vet in regards to YOUR particular dog and their specific needs. COMMERICAL FOODS YOU MAY WANT TO TRY ADP Select Choice Blue Buffalo Company Canidae Fromm Family Halo, Purely for pets Holistic Blend Natura Newmans' Own Organics Wellness Addendum these are all hormone, filler, by product, artificial color, artificial flavor, artificial preservatives, chelated minerals, and "d" rated meat free. In Many cases they are organic or mostly organic and many are also corn, soy and wheat and yeast free. Read the mission statements to decide which you prefer for your dog. Hope it helps. |
just read some questionable info about blue buffalo so...when in doubt..don"t. But it makes me sad because BB was the company that was named after the dog who died of cancer who inspired the company and it's mission. |
Blue Buffalo isn't good they have poor quality control, I have heard concerns of there ingredients coming from China, and to many of the life source bits can make your dog sick. |

Concerned about the many recalls years ago, I spoke with my vet and she referred me to a vet nutritionist who explained to me the best way to find a food that would put my mind at ease as far as constantly fearing recalls. As a result of that conversation I feed my pups who are not on special RX or home cooked diets, Hill's Ideal Balance. They put money into experts and also feeding trials...things that are so important to me. I have learned that quality control should be the first thing to look at in a pet food company, not ingredients! If I were not using the above food, my second choice would be Royal Canin |

:thumbup: I home cook but when I use kibble, it's royal canin. I'm not at all sucked in to pretty marketing and listen to advice from vet nutritionists. My young dogs are doing well and my elderly dogs still going strong so I'm not changing a thing. |
