My baby girl has terrible allergies My baby girl Daisy Is a 2 year old Yorkie. I got her when she was 10 weeks old. Since the day I got her she would itch like crazy. I took her to the vet right away for a puppy wellness checkup and she checked out great. Time went on and she progressively got worse. So after trying hundreds of dollars worth of food and shampoos and so on I de to do allergy testing. Best decision EVER! I found out that my poor girl not only had a few food allergies, but she is allergic to every grass and tree that grows in out area. Do you have a dog with allerigies? |
Hi there Yes I also have a Daisy and she has allergies. Maybe we went wrong naming them after flowers. Unfortunately, food allergy testing is not accurate or reliable. I would control the environmental allergies first and then see what food issues remain. My dog has food allergies too. Lamb is the worst for her, she will break out in hives all over her body. Other things make her vomit bike or have stinky diarrhea and gas. Anyway, my Daisy was very young also when she started to have problems. She's been managed with Atopica for about 9 years now and it really controls her. I posted a thread about it here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...fter-pics.html Good luck with your girl! |
My itchy Daisy was biting at her feet and scratching her ears. I thought she had a grass allergy since it seemed worse in the summer. She ate Lamb and rice with a little chicken on top. She is eating salmon now and is no longer itchy. I believe she is allergic to chicken but now I am wondering if the lamb was making her itch too. Grass doesn't seem to bother her now either. It is so good to see her not itching anymore. |

In the meantime, I'd suggest you treat her for her symptoms, which sound pretty reasonable -- your best options are probably either Atopica or Apoquel. |
I too have a 18 month old Yorkie, Lexi, with we think, food allergies. It started about 6 months ago. She scratches her mouth and ears and the skin around her mouth is red and a little swollen. I am presently trying her on Royal Canine dry food for sensitive skin and once a day giving her cooked chicken and rice. Not sure yet if it is making any difference. Any suggestions? |
