Help! Baby in pain due to Dog food issue Sorry if this issue already been discussed but new to the boards/posting. Our yorkie named Macho(is 6 yrsold) suddenly been diagnosed with having pancreatis. The dog food we been giving since he was a puppy is a high protein grain free Nutro Natural Choice dog food. Never had any issues with him until now...besides switching to grain free food because of him constantly licking and biting his arms in which all that stopped when we made the switch 4yrs ago. The vet said to switch to a low fat dog food but can't really find none that are grain because he will start licking his arms tI'll they have bald spots and sometimes bleed. Any recommendations on a good dog food for this issue?? Any info will be appreciated for he is laud out in pain all day and the vet bills are getting expensive. Thanks |
I have never experienced a dog food high enough in fat content to cause pancreatitis. Are you sure no one is sneaking table scraps, chicken skin, lunchmeat, peanut butter, bacon, etc.? It might be that your dog is overweight which might be a cause of pancreatitis so the vet is trying to get him back to a good weight. If this is the case make sure you add an exercise program too get the weight off quicker. |
I have dog food issues now and I know what your talking about. I need to put mine on a low fat high fiber dog food and the Vet can't suggest any store brands cause he doesn't know any, only what they sell at their office. Long story short, I have search and found one that I just started him on. Natural Balance has a new dog food out that is low in fat and in fiber and is called "Fat Dogs". |
It did not take much fat for my dog to be set off w/ pancreatitis. I feed grain free to him, but I home cook for him. |
