Coughing? Hi Everyone, I got the flu and was wondering whether my dog somehow catched it from me? It started last night 11:00pm where he coughed (like something was stuck in his throat) shortly and then did it again early morning 07:00am and 2 more times during the day but it is short and he eats normal and plays also normal. No signs of runny nose or runny eyes, well his nose is a little wet which I think is normal? Anyone got a idea if it is normal? Shall I keep him warm and hope it will go away or should I take him to a vet as it could be Kennel Cough? altough he is not spitting any fluids out. |
I would think he most likely didn't get Kennel Cough unless he's been in contact with other dogs. We did look it up recently: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2123 |
Just been to the VET and he has been diagnosed with Kennel Cough!!!!! I got antibiotics and hope that he will be better soon but now I think that I got another problem, since he had his first shot of antibiotics he ainīt eating anymore.....is it normal? |
what kind of antibiotic is he on? |
dogs dont typically starve themselves, but make sure he is drinking that is really important.... if he is on dry kibble you might consider adding a little water to it to make it moist and easy to eat |

since I am in the UK, you might donīt know this stuff....anyway the vet gave me SYNULOX (clavulanate-potentiated amoxycillin) made by a company called Pfizer.....anyone knows this stuff? Is it any good? I goo the fluid version as my puppy is too young to eat the tablets. Great News (more or less), Gigi (my puppy) has been eating as I moistend the puppy mix with Chicken grenulates and water plus added his favourite Salami and Turkey pieces by.....unfortunately he eat all the salami and turkey peaces aswell licked the chicken water empty but left the (chicken/rice) puppy food left. He is now 10 weeks old and I wonder whether I should start with food like the Cesaer packages and stop the puppy stuff as he clearly is not touching it but goes mad for salami and turkey :-/ Any suggestions? Many thanks, D. |
Is This A Normal Thing For A Small Dog To Do???? Speaking Of Coughing My Two Yorkies Kind Of Do A Hack/cough Sort Of Thing?? Especially My Boy Sometimes Its As If He Cant Get Enough Air I Know That Sounds Terrible, But Thats What It Sounds Like. It Only Lasts For A Couple Minutes At Times Not Even That Long. I Usually Rub His Throat In An Up And Dowm Motion To Try And Relax Him And Sometimes That Helps Does Anyone Else Experience This?? Should I Be Concerned??? |

I definitly would have him checked out by your vet, sounds like the same my Gigi got :-( I would say they have Kennel Cough, it is really not easy to say as symptons vary by each case but to go sure take him to the vet. |
Good ol Kennel cough......LOL. I had to treat my puppies because I brought in a dog and they gave my adults Kennel cough!!!!! Only some got symptoms. She was just the carrier, she didnt have symptoms at all but it had to be her. But My vet only treated the pups due to the fact kennel cough can be viral or bacterial, viral can not be treated with anitbiotics but bacterial can. It was only a safe guard for the pups. He didnt treat the adults because he feels it is prolly the viral kind and it will just run its course. Kennel cough like said before is basically an irritating cold like humans get and really isnt dangerous unless a secondary infection starts. Just like a cold it needs to run its course. My vet put my puppies on Liquid cefa drops (cefadroxil) twice a day to protect them bacteria that could lead to pnuemonia.....just a safeguard. |
