Does she vomit at a certain time of day? Are you sure she is vomiting vs. regurgitation? Vomiting is a period of heaving, followed by vomiting. Regurgitation is very sudden and without warning or heaving, it just comes up. If it's regurgitation, she could have reflux.

I would have a specialist check her out. It could be she's not doing well with the food you feed, it could be a liver or stomach problem. So many guesses. Only a specialist (internal medical Vet.) can find the problem. Most regular Vets. just want to put them on a food that they sell instead of doing some tests & x-rays.

This is an important difference.....
I doubt it is the dog food, simply because she has been on it since she started eating.....she would not have tolerated it before now....

I would get her to a vet right away. Better now than later on. If there is a problem catch it now and fix it. I would feel relieved if I knew what was causing that because it is definitely not normal behavior.

She's only 4 months old. How long have you had her? About a month? Who knows if she's shown this behavior at the breeder's place. My Uni used to do this when she was really hungry and would throw up foamy yellow bile. We used to sometimes stay late at work and didn't feed her till we got home but she kept throwing up the bile so we would feed her at work also. This ended the problem.

However since you say you free feed, maybe it's an acid reflux thing? I would suggest to not free feed bc when you feed on a schedule you can expect them to be hungry at feeding time. If they don't eat at feeding time then you know something is wrong.

Thank you to everyone for your help and suggestions. you have all brought up some good points. I truly appreciate it. Lexie will definitely be going to the vet. Though the past 3 days she has been perfectly fine. Maybe she had a bug or something but better to be safe than sorry.

I have had my dog now for 8 months. He will throw up yellow bile on a empty stomach so I try to feed him at least every 8 hours. He will throw up at least once a week. I give him pepcid ac and that seemed to help him. He use to throw up alot more than that.

My Ziva was throwing bile late morning - it took a while to figure it was the green beans I was giving her as a treat the previous afternoon. Abby can eat lots of veggies Ziva very limited.

My pup was also on royal canin when she was younger but she gradually developed an...I guess you might call it an allergy? Or a "Reaction" She got to the point that the kibble made her sick every time she ate it. She would throw up bile and undigested food (after heaving and vomiting) Sometimes hours after she ate. Our vet said to give her Pepcid (but if you give your pup that-make sure your vet is the one telling you how much to give your pup based on weight- it's WAY less than a human dose) And he might even recommend that you try a bland food diet for awhile. We gave ours soft cooked rice with diced chicken breast and some low fat yogurt or cottage cheese. End of problem. We gradually started working the kibble back in and...sick again. So we went back to the rice/chicken diet and gradually added different things. We eventually figured out she was intolerant to corn and corn products. It's REALLY hard to find a commercial dog food that doesn't have anything corn in it. So I ended up making her food pretty much all her life. it's not that hard And I'd make big batches ( Like a month at a time) and freeze it into weekly portions. We made sure she got her vitamins and minerals that would normally come from commercial kibble with supplements recommended by our vet. But before you do supplement- make sure you consult with your vet. it's easy to over supplement and hurt these delicate little dogs.


It's definitely not normal behavior so do get her checked out ASAP. I'm sure your vet will be able to offer some good advice. If you need it, I can point you towards some good resources that will help you pick a commercial dog food that might work better for your pup( with your vet's approval of course)...or if you prefer. they can show you how to provide a well balanced home made diet for your baby. But again if you DO decide to go with a home made diet you need to have your vet check it out to ensure you are giving your pup all the nutrients it needs to grow into a healthy adult. Hope that might help a bit...and that your baby gets better soon.

With Dinky it is having an empty tummy. We almost always give him a tablespoon of food at night, and it works well.
I hope you find out at the vet that it's not serious!
