Question about teeth removal
 
I am a member of a lot of holistic groups and they see no need in having teeth removed if baby teeth do not fall out. Their thoughts are that they will eventually and it doesnt hurt anything. Some even say that they are not rooted down far and usually can be pulled yourself if need be. The one that stated that said her vet pulled one out right in front of her to show her how easy it was.

I was wondering what everyones thoughts were on this?

I am really squeemish about things like that. It would be great if the front ones will come out easily, but I will still leave it for the vet to do. I don't know what I would do about the baby teeth because I never had that but I would probably have them removed by the vet when they were spayed or neutered.

If you don't get the extra teeth out, tartar gathers in between the teeth and will cause issues for the adult teeth. It also throws the bite off, creating crooked teeth. I have my Vet do it, if they don't come out on their own.

Well they are wrong. It can mess up the alignment of the adult teeth as well as cause things to get stuck between the adult and baby tooth and then end up rotting both teeth. Since you put your dog under to spay or neuter anyway it's not a big deal to have the vet pull the teeth. I'm not a big fan of holistic medicine because there is just not much science backing it up.

I was going to have hers taken out once she is spayed but thought I had read on here if you wait too long to do so, it will leave holes which can also cause problems? She is almost 10 months old

She is old enough to be spayed so I would just do both now.

Teeth
 
Get them pulled. My little one had a very crowded mouth because of retained baby teeth. So lots of dental work to fix.

My suggestion would be to take the advice of you vet. He is trained in the care of animals. Members of a holistic group are giving opinions not based on science or veterinary care.

I'm sorry but pulling out puppy teeth with your fingers is barbaric. :mad:

agree with what everyone says, the most common and smartest thing to do is have them removed when you have your pup spayed/neutered.

I agree and would never pull out by hand my question was mostly based on whether I should leave them alone or not. There is a lot of good information in the holistic communities that have saved me money by not rushing to the vet. Some of their opinions are a bit crazier than others.

I realize she is old enough to be spayed but I have been waiting to put some weight on her. She is still 2.5 lbs and she is skinny. Not concerned about the weight as my vet is really good at spay/neuter of smaller animals just want to make sure she is healthy first. I plan on doing so this month with the pre surgery blood work up done like with all of my dogs.

I have heard some very scary dangerous holistic things so to me it's worth the extra money to go to the vet. Although if you have a great relationship with your vet you can normally just call in and ask the vet a question.

What is the recovery time and what can I expect after the teeth extraction surgery? Gabby's teeth were not in when she was spayed. Now she needs them taken out. I am unsure of what to expect.

Lola was almost a year when I had her spayed, she needed a few tiny front ones pulled and one fang tooth, she also needed her permanent fang tooth cleaned because of build up. I was brushing her teeth and she still had brown build up from the double tooth.

She ate some chicken the same day as her spay/dental and ate her normal wet and dry food the next day, basically no recovery time needed.

Puppy teeth are NBD and she will be home in a few house. Maybe a little groggy from anesthesia but that's about it.
