Treats for allergy prone dogs Gabby has a yeast ear infection. She is constantly licking her feet and scratching. They told us that this could be a food allergy. They asked us to swap her food and try a grain free diet for 3 months to see if this helps any. Can anyone give me some ideas for treats that I could feed her? She isn't a fan of the new food either that the vet recommended. It is Science Diet Prescription d/d canine skin support (salmon and potatoes) food. Any recommendations on things I can do to help would be appreciated.:) |
She may need a Hydrolyzed diet. You could ask your vet about Purina HA. As for treats, my allergy dog seems to do well on apple flavored fruitables crunchy treats. You could also try fresh raw veggies like carrots, bell peppers, zucchini, broccoli in small amounts. |

Stella & Chewy's, orijin, many premium brands sell treats that are just freeze dried meat. Or dried animal parts like beef trachea, lamb lung, etc. they are 100% meat. I agree stuff like blueberries, broccoli, carrots, apples are yummy and healthy. |
It would depend on what foods she is allergic to...? Btw, food allergies are very rare...why does the vet think it's food? Most dogs have enviro/pollen allergies. I like RMBs, Honest Kitchen Beams (pure fish chews), CET chews. |
He thinks it is good allergies because she doesn't go outside much. She uses puppy pads and very rarely goes outside at all. He also said with her licking her feet that it is usually something in their food. I don't know. I am just going on what he has told me. Trying to do my research now. Thanks for all the support and help. I'm very appreciative, as is Gabby. |

Unfortunately, what this vet is saying to you is def telling me that they are not at all familiar w/ canine allergies. If you can, I'd get to a Vet Dermatologist asap bc they will get you on track immediately....whereas you could end up seeing a generalist vet 10x without ever getting on track.
