e collar alternative I haven't even set the appointment yet but I'm looking into collar alternatives now. I just know my baby will have a fit with one of those collars on. Any suggestions? |
They adapt. I haven't found a good alternative to an e collar. |
Kong makes a blow up collar that I found worked better |
I never used one after Jacksons neuter but I was always around to stop any licking etc. I've seen people use onesies and stuff. We've just never had to use one with any of our dogs. By the way can I just say I thought you were talking about shock collars? That's what they're called ... E dollars or electric collars LOL I was like ummm yes Cathy there's plenty of alternatives to using shock collars haha |
I made mine for Mickey when he was neutered. I rolled up a couple washcloths and covered with a fabric strip. Safety pinned them around his neck to fit rather loose but not loose enough to get it off. It is soft and thick enough to keep him away from his stitches. He wore it and slept in it and didn't get to his stitches at all. |

Collar As someone above mentioned, the blow up collar, like a doughnut works well for most things. I found the Kiss e Collar was great if it does the job. It is soft and can be 'got around' with a persistent dog! When my boy had cataract surgery I had to use the hard plastic cone. He got used to it very quickly and slept in it OK. It did interfere with his sniffing on walks though, and it wobbled as he walked! Eating and drinking from a bowl was hard for him so I either took it off while he ate/drank (with constant monitoring!)or put the bowls into the cone by hand to make it easier. Good Luck! |
I realize my collar is not as glamorous as some you can buy. Just didn't see the reason to buy something that they would wear for 2 or 3 days or so and never need it again. |
Collar Dudley's Mom, your collar was very inventive:-), sounds a bit like the blow up doughnut kind that is fairly costly. I needed a hard one though for my dog's eye and in the end he had to wear it for two months, poor boy. It depends on the use as to which one needs. |
