Best food for my new puppy I got me a new fur baby today. She is almost 11 weeks old and weighs 14 oz. The previous owner was feeding purina puppy chow for small breeds and mixing 2 tablespoonsof pedigree can food with it. What is everyones opinion on this brand? |
Not my favorite but I would leave your pup on that for a month or two so they can get used to there new surroundings. |
Please do not disrupt this baby even more, by taking the ONLY thing it has left that it is familiar with, its food, away! This baby is having to adjust to new people, new environment, new schedule, new water, no momma, no siblings.....do not add to its confusion and disruption, by changing food at this time. Leaving this baby on the food the puppy came to you on, will certainly NOT injure or kill this baby....let the puppy settle in for a couple of months at the very least, before you start disrupting feeding meals. The baby is getting what it need nutritionally in the puppy food....I would wait until the puppy is at least 8 months old, then start with the "food Russian roulette.".....with vaccinations starting in addition to all the other issues/changes puppy is facing, if it aint broke, dont be fixin it. |
I would buy a small bag of what she's currently on and feed it for the next few weeks and then if you want to change it, make sure you have enough of the old food to transition. Lola my cockapoo pup is now 5 1/2 months old. She transitioned really quickly and well onto a new food w/ no problem. We went through a small 3lb bag of her old food just to be safe but she did fine. I see no reason to wait until 8 months old to switch foods if you're uncomfortable or unhappy with current food. |
