Royal Canine Calm Diet? Our vet recently suggested Royal Canine's Calm Diet formula for Maggie. She has some anxiety when I am away from her (even if I am just in the other room). The vet ordered a small bag and we are trying it out. So far, she seems to really enjoy eating it, but we are only on day two and so I will be interested to see if this really does anything to actually comfort her. Has anyone else tried this formula? |
I have not used this particular RC diet.....I was trying to see what would make it a "calming diet"..."Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Calm formula is designed for dogs under 33 pounds. It includes two amino acids that help pets maintain emotional balance. Alpha-casozepine is an amino acid chain derived from milk shown to have calming effects. L-tryptophan is a more commonly known amino acid that also has calming effects. In addition, the formulas include Nicotinamide, also known as Vitamin B3. Nicotinamide creates a calming effect within the central nervous system. Key Additional Benefits Contains a hydrolyzed milk protein and tryptophan(anaminoacid)to help maintain emotional balance of the dog Precise amounts of B vitamins and amino acids to help maintain the skin's natural barrier effect Specific nutrient blend to help regulate intestinal transit and to help support beneficial digestive flora This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalatecrystals Contains nutrients to support healthy teeth This info is not from the RC nurtitionist or the RC site....I am still working on that and will let you know when I get it! I did read some reviews and testimonials from people that have used it, and they all said it work great for them...of course, we all know we need to be leary of what we read from straangers on line...... |
Here's the info from the Royal Canin website. It was very difficult to find, but that's probably because it's a prescription diet: Calm / Veterinary Therapeutic Formulas / Canine Nutrition / Veterinary Products / Home - RoyalCanin |
Very interesting concept. Not sure if it works or not. I probably wouldn't stick with a soecific food just for a calming effect. We use Prozac here. lol Hooe it works for her.:) |
Thanks for posting the link above! a great deal of information that a person that would be interested in, could present to their vet for any of the issues listed down the left side of that page! |
