Totally agree...I think it's so sad to see all the overweight pets in this day and age, I always fee SO bad for them bc usually it's just from over feeding and under exercising...and that's not fair to the pet.

So true. There is no reason for over weight dogs. I know so many people that just fill up the bowl. Most dogs will just keep eating. If they just find out the best weight for their dog and measure the food. And also don't give the dog lots of extras. All those treats and table scraps. . . So bad.

I'm using the chicken because that's what they were using before and I knew they didn't have problems with it, but I've heard great things about the duck and other formulas.

Thank you sooo much for sharing your story. We have had feeding issues also our babies never seem satisfied and we try not to over feed. We measure every meal and limit snacks by schedule. Tosh has stomach issues simular to the types you mentioned. Had a major problem where he ended up in the vet on IVs worried us to death because we were so cautious with them. Tova seems to continually gain weight even with all the careful watching. So we may just give this food a try. We have used Royal Canin as puppies but since we now use Nutro ultra. Has been pretty good but not satisfying. Thank you again😊

I know, it so hard when you feel like they are starving all the time. Some people do better on high protein and I imagine some dogs do too. I think the excessive carbohydrates companies use is more about forming the kibble and keeping the cost low, I don't think it's all for "health."

Thanks, I'm going to try it. My girls have not had problems, except Karlee has put on an extra pound or two eating the same food and amount the other 2 do. I am always hoping to find something new, and they are not picky at all.

It is, but sometimes it is not from that at all. I went through hell trying to keep Pippi and Armani at ideal body weight. I don't give a lot of extra food to my pups and they get minimal treats. Armani and Pippi are litter mates and I am convinced it is their metabolism. The vet nutritionist said Pippi especially is an easy keeper. She could not believe how little I was feeding her to keep her from gaining.

I now home cook for them (have for some time) and the amount of food is so much more than what they had (which has made them happier) and they have maintained their weight with no problem.

I would never feed them any commercial food again.

I have not changed my mind about anything??? Not sure what you mean??

I believe I have mentioned that I home cook for three of my pups and I do believe I have mentioned why. One has PLE and these two for the reason stated above. No, I don't think a thread just about this was something I wanted to do.

I understood that you have home cooked occasionally, but you have been a huge advocate for Science Diet and foods made by the Mars company, and when you said "I would never feed them any commercial food again." I wonder what changed your mind.

I am talking about Armani and Pippi. I still feed Hill's Science Ideal Balance. I highly recommend that food for healthy dogs! I also use RX foods from Hills, Purina and Royal Canin. Nothing has changed.

Well, others may read it that way; but I believe Nancy knows I have more than two pups so I really didn't get her question.

I have seven yorkies of my own and my foster pups, and I feed based on individual needs. I only commented because someone said dogs are usually fat due to being overfed and underexercised. While I agree with that person, I was merely commenting on the fact that I have two that were fat but not due to either of those facts.

I didn't honestly mean to take this thread off on another topic. :) I am not against commercial food, but am for Armani and Pippi. I do think that home cooking is awesome but NO I would not cook for them all unless I simply HAD to. LOL
