Anal gland problems Could anybody out there give me any advice on what I can feed my 16 year old Yorkshire terrier to help her with her discomfort as she has anal gland problems and is really struggling to go to the toilet, would be extremely grateful for any help and advice. Many thanks Pauline |
Hoe about a teaspoon of canned pumpkin couple times a day hope she feels better soon |
Are her anal glands full? Does she drag her bottom across the floor? If so, the anal glands need to be expressed. You can do this, but it's messy and smelly. I heard vets and groomers can do this (for a fee, I presume). Adding a little bit of oil to her diet can help with bowel movement. But be cautious, as it may trigger pancreatitis. The oil also helps with skin and coat. |
Hi and welcome to YT. Is this new, or is it something that's been going on? If it's new, I'd actually get to the vet bc her glands may need to be expelled and/or it could be due to something else entirely...esp at her age, which can be quite a vulnerable age. You may want to switch foods as some dogs have anal gland problems on one food, but not another... |
