when to start adult food
 
I have a tiny seven month old that has been spayed we were at the vets today to remove the stitches and he said no more puppy food she's done growing. Seems early would love your advice :animal36 thanks Alexis

What I have been told (from my vet) is that you can continue to give puppy food until 1 year old, but it is also okay to switch to adult food earlier than that since small breed dogs mature faster than large breed dogs. If you still have puppy food I would continue to feed that and then transition to adult if you like. I switched my Shih Tzu over to adult at about 6 months old because Lexi was eating adult and it was just easier to feed both dogs the same food.

When ZoE was about ten months old and down to half a bag of kibble, i bought a bag of adult food, and mixed the two together until all the puppy food was gone and she was just on adult food. The transition was smooth and easy, with no issues.

Do you think adult dog food is tastier than puppy?
My 4 month old Izzy loves every chance she gets to grab at zoeys kibble.

I have a 11 week old, 2pd Yorkie and she won't eat any of her puppy food now that she has discovered our older Yorkie's food. His food is out all the time and he eats as he pleases. I have tried everything....mixing his with her puppy food, sitting her dish with her puppy food beside his and NOTHING....she will only eat what he is eating. We have him on Iams lamb and rice. Going to talk to our Vet this week at our 12 week appointment to see if I should be giving her some supplements to make up for her not eating puppy food. Any ideas?

I have a new pup too,she is 4 months , does the same thing . And is determined and snatchy but not mean about it. The other one is possessive of her food and growls when she comes near.they eat better when they can see each other so I am in between them. Each with their own food. When Izzy was as young as yours I would keep her own kibble In her pen to free feed on. Must be adult food is tastier. I don't free feed the older one . Mine eats twice a day , don't need to keep it down all the time

We had the same thing with sophie wanting to eat cat food and it was almost impossible to stop it so we had to put the cat food up higher than she could reach but with other small dogs not sure how you could stop it

I would make sure this is done by a vet nutritionist or over seen by one otherwise it could do a lot more harm then good to your dog.

I agree and that's why I'm using sky's the limit it's a mix that I add meat ,vegetables ,fruit, and egg to. This way I'm sure it's properly balanced

Is there a nutritionist on staff at that company? Just added certain foods does not make your dogs food balanced there would be supplements that need to be added.

They work with Guelph university which is the biggest school around her for vets and highly recommend
