Yorkie/Maltese Won't Eat Hi Everyone, In order for you to help - I will tell you as much as I can about my current situation. We got our Yorkie Maltese when she was 3 months old. She is now 7 months old. When we got her, she was being feed 2 times a day, in the morning at in the evening. She was being feed Holistic Health Extension (?). I gradually switched her to Wellness Core Puppy Formula as I had read great things about it. She loved it, and would eat it dry out of the bowl and out of a stuffed ball. She got through a 4lb bag of the stuff before starting to go off it - I thought it was because she was teething and couldnt bit down so I started mixing in warm water to soften it. This worked for a week or more, then she wouldn't touch it. I tried to add a few pieces of carrot and sometimes chicken, this helped entice her for a little while but eventually she wouldnt eat it. She eats treats and carrots/celery fine. She will eat anything except the food I give her. I don't give her "table scraps" except for the chicken I put in her bowl a few times after she stopped eating the wellness (during teething).. After she stopped being interested in the wellness core, I bought the wellness core wet food to use as a topper. She loved it, and ate all her food including the kibble. Two weeks later, she sniffed and wouldn't budge on eating it. I tried a new wet topper, same thing - she liked it for a week or two, then nothing. Two vets told me to try a different kibble... so I switched to Nature's Variety Intinct.. again she loved it... then I had to start using a small topper for her to eat. Now she won't eat anything even with a topper. Throughout this, I have not noticed any health problems or strange behavior. She still acts like a playful puppy and wants to eat anything other than her food. I have tried a different bowl, a plate, warming the food... (that worked for a few days) but today she has only had 3/4 of her breakfast (which she ate a lunch) and none of her dinner at all.. What should I do? I've been picking it up about 30 mins after putting it down... I've tried a few different foods. I'm frustrated? |
This sounds like my 5 month old puppy. I leave Royal Canin Yorkie puppy out for him in the kitchen while I'm at work and I realized that when I came home, all the food was still there. He hasn't put on any weight in over a month. Yesterday I bought like 8 cans of wet food to start adding a tad to his dry food to entice him. Sometimes I think he just has no interest in eating. It sucks that they can be so picky about their food. One thing I do know is that I tried switching him to Fromm puppy gold and he would literally eat the RC and leave the Fromm in the bowl. Hopefully someone here has great suggestions. |
Hi I had a problem with my almost 10 month old malt when he was little, also had a problem when my 6 month old yorkie first came home. When Jonas (malt) was little I had him on science diet (which is one of the best quality foods I can get here in Peru) He would get really sick and blood in his poo. My little yorkie baby just wouldn't eat at all. I had a really hard time with her until I switched to home-cooked. Now I cook for them about every 5 days. I put their food in ice cube trays and freeze it and then just take out enough for one day each night and let it un thaw in the fridge so it is ready for the next day. They never turn anything down now. They eat beef, broccoli. cauliflower, apples, bananas, carrots, eggs and brown rice. I also give them ground egg shells for calcium. This is working for us and my babies are very healthy. I do have to watch that they don't get into the big dogs kibble because it makes them both sick. Good luck, I hope you finds something that works for your little guy. Debbie |

Have you tried sprinkling Parmesan Cheese on her food yet? |

Another thing you can try is low-sodium broth - sprinkle it over the food. I think the Parm works better though... |
Finally think I found something that works... picked up a bag of orijen puppy kibble. Well she eats it dry! out of her bowl! with a little bit of cheese. Amazing. I've tried everything with her.. and the answer was orijen!? |
