11 month not eating well??? Hello All, I have an 11 mo 3 1/2 lb yorkie and he's kinda been a pain with eating. I can't get him to eat just dry food. I feed him merrick puppy wet food and I crush very finely instinct dry food with it. Lately he hasn't been interested in eating his wet food. I put it down at 10 AM and he doesn't seem interested in it. Then around 2pm he throws up a little yellowish bile. He doesn't throw up every day but it is about once a week. It's quite annoying bc I know he is throwing up bc his stomach is empty. Then at night he'll eat his food after I reheat it. I can ask the Vet but I don't think anything is wrong with him bc he is otherwise playful, running, etc. Anyone experience this issue as I understand Yorkies can be very picky. |
You're right, some dogs/yorkies are just so picky - and it's tough when that happens. Have you tried sprinkling Parmesan Cheese on the food yet? It can do wonders in making it more appealing/pungent/yummy smelling to a dog. Otherwise, what about a rotation diet, where you keep a few different foods on hand and rotate every few days to keep his appetite stimulated....have you tried that? Does his body weight feel okay to you? |
Hello and thanks for the response. I try to just give him dry food and he nibbles on it but not enough for a meal. I also have blue buffalo wet food which is kinda like ground food and I mix that with the merrick chicken food. But, I'll try to sprinkle the parmesan cheese. After I posted this tester he ate his dinner at 9pm then around 10pm bc he hadn't eaten all day I gave him some more and he wiped his bowl clean. So so picky.. I did not have this issue with my other yorkie who was also a male. However, this guy is small weighs just 3 1/2 lbs and I'm convinced he just doesn't eat that well or bc he's so small that he requires very little food. |
Hi Wylie's Mom - update. I gave him his food today by sprinking very little parmesan cheese and that did the trick (thank you). I also had a thought and for dinner instead of the parmesan cheese I crushed one of his treats (stinky something or other) into a fine powder and sprinkled that in his food instead of the parmesan cheese. He wiped the bowl clean. I guess I will have to try that for a while and see is he gets better at eating as I don't want to have to continue kinda like tricking him. We'll see if he grows out of that phase, just wondering if you continue to do that or do they eventually eat it regularly without having to add stuff to their food? |
