My 6yo depressed, not eating ... but it's been too long My 6 year old Yorkies stayed with my sisters family in Canada for over a year while we had were traveling due to family emergencies. My sister has a Yorkie herself and she fosters dogs. So upon his return to our home, I had anticipated depression and not eating. However it's been a bit over 2 weeks, he's not really eating still, some days he will eat 1/10 of his food, some days half (I mix small pieces of treats in his food by the way). He loves his treats fine. So he eats just not his food. I'm weary of bringing him to the vet because they will just run a ton of tests that would cost me a lot when I'm pretty sure it's a matter of depression. What can I do????? Or is going to the vet the only answer? I've tried even running with him to get him hungry and he would eat maybe slightly more that meal but again not much and I still have to mix in with treats. |
If your baby was staying for 1 1/2 years with other dogs he may be just missing them, I don't think think 2 weeks home, away from his canine buddies is really IMO enough time for him to be over being depreesed for the loss of his lil friends. How ever, I am very over protected and a big worry wart when it comes to my babies. I would take my baby to the vet. I have a very honest, caring vet, if it was depression she would tell me. It's always better to be safe then sorry is my motto. Good luck, I hope your little boy returns to his little quirky self soon. |
Vet him just to be sure he's not ill or in pain, poor baby. An exam and some tests are in order since he's been off his feed so long. |
Poor boy, sounds like he is missing his playmates. I would give him extra attention, things that are stimulating like outings if possible. My boys love going places and seeing things. Does he perform basic tricks like sit, shake hands, and down? You can have him perform his tricks and reward him with his regular food. Try to give him something to look forward to each day by having a routine. |
Poor little boy, missing his buddies.... I wonder if you have some kind of doggie day care facility that you could let him go to, even if only for a few hours, a couple of times a week? Maybe that would get him energised again? Or a friend that might pop over with her pup for a playdate...let your little boy know that there are 'others' out there? I don't know...and I'm so sorry that you're both going through this :( |
