Sooooo Nervous I need some reassurance that I am doing the right thing. I am having my 1 year old yorkie neurtered tomorrow and keep wanting to cancel. I am so afraid of something happening to him. I feel so horrible to do this to him and I don't know if I should proceed. Can anyone help me!!! |
Neutering is a very common procedure. While there is some risk, the benefits are considered to outweigh the risk. As long as a reputable vet is doing the procedure, your baby should be fine.😀 |
You are doing that baby a favor with neutering. My grandma used to have an old saying in reference to womanizing man....."They are all run mad like a dog chasing a wench in heat...". Now while that is a little crude, you get the picture....an intact male is run mad with sex dr4ive....he is more tempted to roam away, he smells every female in heat for a 2-5 mile radius, he is compelled to "mark his territory" so no other crazy man...er, male, encroaches into HIS harem, and that is just the hormonal drive issues....your baby is a year old so his growth plates have matured, so no problems there.....there is absolutely no reason to keep a dog intact unless he is breeding stock, and that involves an entire different discussion on pedigrees and breed standards and quality breeding stock with proven lines. |
I know it's scary, I totally understand! But as long as your kiddo is healthy and you do the pre-surgery bloodwork, everything should be okay. Did you go ahead with it today? Let us know how he does! Also, be SURE to come home w/ pain meds! |
I have only had all females, purchased at 8 weeks old, all have now passed. Years back my brother had a male Shih Tzu. The pup was a couple of years old and was diagnosed with testicular tumor and needed to be neutered. I now have a little adopted boy that was neutered when I adopted him. Learning from my brothers experience and learning from my own personal experience why spaying females at early age is so important for a healthier life. Neutering your boy is the healthiest thing you can do for him. Spay and neuter if not planning on breeding them is my advise I give to all ppl. If I were to purchase a male puppy I would have him neutered for one reason only, and that is for his health, NOT for lessening the chances of marking. We are all concerned, worried and scared when our babies have to under go these procedures, take comfort in knowing he will have a healthier longer life. |
He's all done! I hated dropping him off and even got tears in my eyes when I left but I took him home about 4 hours later and he was hyper as hell! Running around, but he couldn't get comfortable in any spot sitting or laying down. A little while later he was shaking so I gave him a tiny dose of pain pills that they gave me and he slept it off. I took him for a walk last night and he seemed his usual self and this morning he is fine. I am so glad its over with. Thank you ladies for your support! |

yay it's over, I was in tears when I had to bring my wee little 5 month old babies to be spayed, I am in tears for teeth cleaning, I am in tears when ever I have to leave them over night. So glad you made the right decision for your little boy. You are home free now, no more stress or worry. Don't let little boy get to crazy now. They do heal much faster then we do, but, you need to keep him as calm as possible. I am sure your vet told you how long. Happy for you that he is home and a happy boy. |
