Nutri Cal Just curious I have had Sugar for 24 hrs now and I wanted to know if she HAS to have Nutri-Cal and how much, how often she is eating pee and poo well so does she really need it? |
When My pups were always young I gave it. I gave it to them untill they were over 2lbs. You give just a dab 3 times a day. |

Yes, she does. It helps keep her blood, and sugar levels stable and helps prevent Hypoglycemia. You will need to give her this two to three times daily by simply putting a small amount on the tip of your finger and placing your finger either in her mouth and letting her lick it off or you can place it on her nose and let her lick it off that way. Before too long she'll be accostumed to it and gladly accept it. You will Need to give her this until she is four months of age. Yes, it is very essential for small breed dogs. Best of luck. |
I have been giving it to her the family I got her from had told me that she has been eating it w/o problems. He actually called this evening to see how Sugar was doing and also to see if I had any ?'s I thought that was really nice of him. |
nutrical I took Ceeby to the vet the day after I got him for his well puppy check. He was eating pretty good at that time but at eight weeks only weighed nine ounces. The vet told me to give him Nutrical two or three times a day. Also the breeder said he needed it twice a day for awhile. I was giving him a dose, just the tip of my finger, right before bedtime at night because he doesn't eat at night then again in the morning for the same reason. he weighs three pounds now and is a little over five months. I have only recently felt comfortable not giving it. I only give it now when he is not feeling well and I know that he hasn't eaten anything or enough. He had a sick spell over the weekend and is now only eating out of my hand and only a little bit so I am giving him nutrical when I think he needs it and until he gets his eating back up. |
Where do you buy Nurti-cal? |

Healthy puppies do NOT need nutrical as a part of their daily diet. The over use and constant suggestion of this as a cure all for any problem is just exasperating. Nutrical CAN be very useful in certain circumstances...such as, an overstimulated or very stressed pup who might have a hypoglycemic issue. A pup who is not eating for an extended period of time(should be vet checked anyway). A very tiny pup, used as precautionary if hypoglycemia is suspected or a history of episodes are apparent. The use of Nutrical as a part of a daily diet actually will inhibit the natural intake of your pups regular food and you can create a finicky eater. Daily use can also render it less effective when needed for a true hypoglycemic problem. If they are used to a higher sugar balance in their system all the time, they can't be developing the proper mechanism to balance naturally. Imagine giving your children a lollipop with a coke to wash it down everyday. A healthy pup should get it's nutritionally needs from it's regular food. Please do not put this stuff on their nose...they can inhale it and cause respiratory problems. |
Thank You all for your advice I will definatly take it all into Cinsideration. My little girl has been doing great so I have not been giving it to her. |

Its not a cure all end all!! People need to respect its usage and not rely on it as a daily food suppliment because that is exactly what it is "a suppliment." If your puppy is healthy it doesnt need it! If a puppy is truly hypoglycemic "Nutra Drops" are better suited because of its lasting effects. |
The breeder told me to use Nutri-Cal, she said it prevented hypoglycemia. My vet disagreed. When he checked her the day after I picked her up from the breeder, she was slightly hypoglycemic and he told me to discontinue the Nutri-cal. He said if my pup was healthy and active not to use it at all. Zoe has been very energetic and healthy without it. He said check the label, it's mostly corn syrup and can actually create sugar imbalance. That's his opinion, but thought I should post. I have Nutri-Cal that the breeder game me, and once in a while, maybe once a week, I give Zoe a dab as a special treat. She's small, 2 lbs at 5 months, so I don't know, but I went with the vet's opinion. For what it's worth, |
Well I used Nutrical because my girl was only 12 oz when I brought her home and the breeder told me to give her nutrical. |
I don't give Nutrical every day. I do give Cowboy a dab every now and then. I always give Nutrical after one has thrown up or had the runs. I also give it if I feel the dog will be stressed...traveling further than usual or a trip to the vets....just to be safe. I do always have it on hand though because it is an awsome product :) |
