My puppy is not eating Ive had my yorkie pup for about 3 weeks now.(She's 10 wks) I fed her SD canned puppy food for the 1st 2 weeks and she kept wanting to eat the big dog food. So I went and bought the Fromm puppy food and she won't eat it. I went back to the canned food yesterday adding a few pieces of fromm to it and she will barely touch it. I hate to keep trying different foods, I don't want to mess her little tummy up. What do you suggest I do? No criticism PLEASE. |
Yorkie puppies can be funny about eating. I had to hand feed Max his first year, working to get him excited about his food. He would perform sits for each kibble. I sped up the process of feeding by filling a Kong with his kibble and playing games with him. What kind is the big dog food that she is interested in? Is it a kibble? |
Yes its Victor brand adult dry dog food. |

I understand your reluctance to keep changing foods and offering alternatives that could encourage picky eating, but maybe a different food is the answer. Looks like Victor has a puppy/all life stages formula. Might be something to consider. Or I would try to get samples of other foods and see if she takes to one. Good luck! |
You haven't mentioned what your other dogs are eating. Is it an all life stages food? If so, just go ahead and let the pup eat it. If not, you might try switching them all to an all life stages food. We had that problem when we got our 2nd yorkie. She wouldn't eat any of the puppy foods we tried. But, she would eat whatever the other dogs ate. We free-fed our other dogs. So, we ended up switching all the dogs to an all life stages food and just let them all eat the same thing. We have a LeBistro feeder and just put the food in there. They eat what they want, when they want. It has worked out well for us. I know most people will disagree with free feeding, but we once tried measuring the food for each dog and feeding them on a schedule. That just did not work out for us. The dogs would not eat on demand, and we were worried the pup would get sick (or worse) so we just went back to free feeding. It is what my dogs are used to I guess. |
I mentioned above its a dry adult food. We let her eat a little in the beginning and it constipated her. I may look into getting the victor they can all eat. Thanks for the suggestion. |
