RC GI discontinued - best food for pancreatitis? Hi, we just learned that Royal Canin is discontinuing their GI food. Cooper is 10 yrs old and had a severe attack of pancreatitis about 3 years ago; he's been on RC GI ever since. I don't want to mess with him by trying a lot of new brands; what do you guys suggest? I've read good things about Fromm, Acana, Honest Kitchen…? Or Hill's rx? I need something low in fat and, I guess, higher in protein than carbs? There's way more info about dog nutrition than I would've guessed! Thanks!!! |
dog I hope you can find the right dog food. My Spud will need a diet for pancreatitis. Right now all he eats is tilapia and quinoa. After all his meds are done and he is ok he will need a good food. |

RC GI was the lowest fat food on the market. I would home cook. |
I have one of my pups who had an epidode of pancreatitis on Hill's I/D...he was on Hill's I/D low fat but he was not maintaining ideal body weight. So far he is great on the regular I/D. |
FYI: I contacted Royal Canin for an explanation.....received this from them..... "Good morning Judy, Thank you for contacting Royal Canin, we appreciate your inquiry. I am happy to report that we are NOT discontinuing the GI line of food. Please let us know if you need further assistance. Warm regards, Technical Services Veterinary Technician Tel: 800-592-6687 E-Fax: 636-926-3859 Email: info.usa@royalcanin.com " Perhaps you may want to contact them yourself about what you were told and who told you that. |
solid gold has a good low fat food 6%, holistique blend |
I just bought a case of RC Gastro Low fat yesterday. It's not discontinued. |
Is this good for liver issues too? |
Since RC is precription you should call your vet and ask. Maybe they make something for the liver. |
Royal canine is prescription? They want to sell her on Science Diet....that gave her problems a few years ago...is the problem... |

My girl has pancreatitis, IBS and HGE. She was eating Hills's i/d kibble and canned until her allergies flared up. She did well except for the itchies. Vet and nutritionist felt that she needed to be on Hill's z/d. The itchies are gone and and she is feeling great! |
