help with first menstrual cycle Mia was in her heat cycle already because she was in her changing stages. Yesterday, unexpectedly she got her menstruation and I wasnt ready for it . I was actually in the process of getting a urine sample from to test for uti as her vulva was very swollen , red/irritated. My questions are am I able to still get urine sample or not due to her period? Am I suppose to bathe the area because of dry blood? .Currently she has a babys diaper till I go out today to buy her dog diapers. She continues to try to take it off , but I dont want her to lick herself anymore to irritate her vulva and also stain my belongings at home as she already has. She was going to get spayed as I do not want to breed her but the heat cycle beat me to it. She is 10 months old now 6.25lb yorkie. How do I go about handling this situation? What are my precautions and steps. Im certainly a newbie. |
Also she currently pees in a pad should I buy the disposable diapers or the washable because last night she had a babys diaper and she actually went to urine in a pad and she notice she urine in the diaper. If I buy thr disposable how long before i change it? |
If she is in heat it is normal for her vulva to be red and swollen....is there another reason you thought she may have a uti? They will lick more because of being in heat to keep themselves clean...that is normal as well. You could still take a urine sample in if you have other reasons for thinking she has a uti but make sure you mention she is in heat to explain the blood. Without knowing exactly why you thought she had the uti other than the red swollen vulva I can't really say....if you are concerned then I would. You are waiting for her to be out of heat to spay her though right? If she isn't in danger of becoming pregnant (no unaltered males in the house, never left unattended outside etc) that's the safest thing to do. As far as staining the doggy diaper should fix that issue for you...a heat cycle is anywhere from 12-26 days and the bleeding lasts maybe 7-10 depending on the dog. The diapers should be changed whenever they are soiled. You could rinse the area with warm water if it's messy but that's typically why they lick excessively.... |
