Can't get medicine! Is any one else having issues getting certain medicines because of it being a heavily controlled substance? Sammy has been on Hydrocodone for his CT for close to two years we would get it from the vet. Well the vet can not get it now so we have to get the prescription and take it to our local pharmacy well the only one the pharmacy is having is the Hydrocodone mixed with acetaminophen and dogs can not have acetaminophen. So we went back after asking many pharmacy's and she rewrote the prescription with the additive it needed. We took it back to a few pharmacy's that the vet said other patients have gotten it from but they could not fill it. One told us it is on order but does not know when it will be in but another told us no one is able to get ahold of it right now. Not sure what to do. He mostly only has the honking when he is excited like after we come back from being gone and after a bath and so on. My mom had to stop his daily walks because she is afraid he will get to excited and start honking bad. Is any one else having this issues? Does anyone have any suggestions? |
Yes Taylor, you are correct. The DEA has reclassified a number of the pain medicaitions in an effort to curb the national a use issues. So many people hare having to go see their providers more often etc. because they can't write for the medication and refills like they used to. I not thought of how this would affect the vet industry though the laws are the same. |
Is there a pharmacy in your area that does compounds. They might be able to specially make it. |
Your vet can get the drugs, but it requires an enormous paper trail undertaking to send patients home with a supply. So most choose to just script out now. With Tramadol I had a heads up and got a mammoth supply. Otherwise we would just get it from the pharmacy. In your case I am not sure (but major vet hospitals in your area may fill it with a script). Have you tried Diamondback? |
Roadrunner Pharmacy in AZ compounds meds for pets. Call them and see if they can fill a RX from your vet. I have to take Hydrocodone syrup for cough (I have severe respiratory problems) and you should have seen what I had to go through now that it is in a class 2 category. |
I too would try calling Diamondback Drugs, that's where I get all my meds for Wylie and they ship all over. Diamondback Drugs - Veterinary Compounding Pharmacy |
