What to feed my 7 year old Yorkie Hello everyone, I'm new here, so I hope I'm doing this correctly. I have a Yorkie, 8 lbs... He has been sick (diarrhea and throwing up), I took him to the animal hospital last night as there was blood in his stool. They have sent me home with (2) Antibiotics, Pedialite, a Probiotic and some bland canned food to feed him. He has always eaten Purina Puppy Chow, his regular vet said it was fine for me to keep him on that always. All of his blood work came back on - kidney, liver function, etc... However as in a couple of days when I move him from this bland canned food, I'm wondering if we would be better off with a different food - with not so much food coloring and more natural/healthy? I'm just not sure what to try. Thanks in advance for any input!! :) |
I feed pre-made raw by Primal or Natures Variety. But if I fed kibble, I'd go with Natures Logic, Solid Gold, Fromm, Wellness, Orijen/Acana, or Natures Variety. |
Some plain boiled chicken and plain rice with a tiny bit of pumpkin (for digestion) mixed in is good for tummy trouble. Personally, I am currently in the process of transitioning Maggie from Blue Buffalo to Wellness small breed dry food. The Blue Buffalo was hard on her tummy. So far I am happy with Wellness...the kibble is small (which Maggie likes) and it has not food coloring etc (which i like!). Keep up posted on what you try! And i hope your fur baby is feeling better soon! |
I would get off the Purina it's not a trust worthy company. I would also feed a plan diet of boil chicken and white rice until he seems to start doing better then slowly transition him to a new food. |
