Stella and Chewy's- 16 week old pup OK- So our Chip was on it when we brought him home...I researched it, noted the concerns, and opted to keep him on it for awhile... He's thriving-16 weeks old and 3 pounds 2 oz- right about where he should be-Vet says all good with teeth, ears, etc. Here's my question- according to the package, for his weight (up to 5 lbs) the recommended amount is 2.25 patties per day... since he's a pup, we feed him 2 patties mixed with Eukanuba Excel Puppy spread out over 3 meals, with free access to kibble- Im seeing recommendations to cut out the middle meal at 4 months- but I dont think we should decrease his food...so does it make a difference-if its 2 or 3? We've never had a pup this small- our first Yorkie was a full 11 pounds and lived 14.5 years... What's the protocol? |
For any food, I think puppies need more than the rec amount...it also depends on their activity level...here's a link to their feeding guide/ calculator. Stella & Chewy's - Feeding Guide I'm, looking @ the feeding guide for S&C on our bag & it says Puppies: % of Expected Adult Weight, then it lists 10%, Multiple of Adult Requirement is 2.60...etc. I have a baby scale that I weigh my dogs on once a month, they're all @ their ideal adult wieght. If they're losing weight, I up their food a little, if they're gaining, I reduce a little. Their weight only fluctuates between a couple of ounces. |
I would use the feeding calculator that Jenny posted and/or the one at Primal or Natures Variety. |
