Tear Duct Irrigation Macy always has a small amount of brown gunk in the corner of her eyes. I clean her eyes every morning and at some point during the afternoon with warm water. She doesn't have any hair poking her eye and she drinks Gerber baby water without added minerals. She had a vet appointment last week and I asked my vet to look at her eyes and make sure something else wasn't going on I couldn't see. He now wants to do a tear duct irrigation to see if her ducts are blocked. She is going in for a dental in February and he wants to do it then. Has anyone ever had this procedure done on their furbaby? |
Interesting you ask bc my foster has blocked tear ducts and had to have this done. It's very simple...they put a colored dye into the eye and wait about 15mins max to see if any of the colored liquid drains out the nose. If it doesn't drain out, the ducts are blocked. |
My vet was planning on doing a tear duct irrigation while she is sedated for her dental. We don't know if her ducts are clogged or not but he said it may be possible since she gets brown crust on the inside of her eyes all the time. Now I am wondering if he should do this test first to see if her ducts are really clogged. thanks for the info. |
