Dasuquin I am hoping for some help before we go to the vet to purchase more Dasuquin for Sophie. Sophie has had knee problems forever and last year she had both luxating patellas fixed and then she ruptured her CCL this summer and had that surgery as well. She has been taking Dasuquin since her first surgery in September 2014. We have been getting the Dasuquin sprinkle capsules for cats (as given to us by our vet) but the more I have researched and read about it the more I wonder if she would be better off with the small dog soft chews. The vet gave us the cat ones because of her size and said they were better for her because she is under 10lbs but I was looking today and it seems some people give their little ones half a chew a day instead of a whole. I want her to have whatever she needs but I am kind of wanting to do the ones meant for dogs because they have higher amounts of the beneficial ingredients and would last twice as long - and being on a budget after those surgeries, I will admit that saving a little bit of money would be nice. Sophie does have early arthritis already so we will buy her whatever is necessary but I don't want to be spending money on something that isn't strong enough or we are purchasing ever 84 days if there is a better option for her well being and our wallets! Has anyone here with used the soft chews and just given half or is it normal to have 5lbs and under get the ones for cats? She ranges from 4.3-4.7lbs depending on the time of year so I don't know if half would be okay for her or if we should stick with the cats ones. |
I have a 17 pounder and I give her the small dog chews. You don't have to buy them from the vet so you may want to do some price checking around online. |
Jada is 5lbs 10oz and my vet has her on dasuquin Chews. He has her on 1/2 of a chew for the smallest size dog it comes in. I order mine online. It's much cheaper than my vet |
Thanks. I have been looking online but I can't find anywhere that ships to Ontario without the shipping making them cost more than the vet price. I will keep looking though, hopefully I can find somewhere! |
dog Did you try Petmeds. They should have that med and ship it I hope. My Sud chews down his half tab. He waits for it because it must be tasty. I never have any trouble with him taking his pill. |
i got it from amazon. Good stuff. have tried many brands. Dasuquin is the only one that stopped my yorkie limping |
My Sophie is 5.2 lbs and 1 year old when she was about 6 months the vet said she had problems with her joints and gave here several shots for inflammation. I started to give her Corsaquin. I get this from Walmart. She has done wonderful on this and has had no flare up with her joints. It is a very reasonable price. |
Maggie has LP on both legs, is 4yrs old, and is doing great on it. I give her a half every other day (she got a half every day for the first few weeks). I actually just toss it in her food. |
Pippin, a year old and 8 lbs gets 1/2 chew a day and she loves them. All I have to do is call out m\Medicine Time and she comes running, then off to go outside to pee and then to bed...she loves her routine. I get them online at Drs Foster Smith. |

I am not sure if you checked out this on line site:https://thepetpharmacy.ca/cart/checkout but they do have the soft chews - 150 tablets was $61 + HST. I could not get an estimate on shipping costs. |
