Hearguard Chewables and Vomitting???
 
My boy is 8mo old and on Saturday I gave him his monthly heart guard chewable med around 12 noon and 5 hours later he vomitted. The vomit was brown colored like the tablet. I also found a small undigested piece in his vomit. This is the 3rd time I've given the medication and this never happened before.

Could it be a reaction or has this happened to anyone before.

I'd tell my vet. Often when they vomit there could be something in the vomit that hasn't digested yet, it doesn't mean that that caused the vomiting. These little buggers get into all sorts of things that we might not even know about. I would just be concerned that he really wasn't covered for the month. Call your vet and see what he advises you to do.

It does help when you give Heartguard with food..

I know with my Peanut he would always throw it up. I tried maybe 3 times and then I was over it. He is now on Revolution- which is a topical so for Pnut it's better for him.

I agree with the advice from the members above. Try giving it with food or shortly after a meal. Also, call your vet for advice on what to do this month to make sure your pup is covered.

So I spoke to my vet about the issue and the vet said that the heartguard chewables are very rich and fatty and sometimes hard for stomachs (possibly that day). I need to make sure I am giving him smaller pieces and give it to him a little at a time and make sure he is chewing it because if he is swollening large pieces (little hoglet) then the the chewable will be a lump in the stomach and this might be hard to digest.

Good, information, I always cut them up into four pieces, my guys love them and would swallow them whole.

I cut up the little bricks before I give them to my boys, otherwise they would swallow it in one piece, lol. Just make sure you are giving the whole thing in one day. There was a another member who asked if she could spread it out over a few days. The preventative would not work this way.

Thanks. Next time I'm going to crush it into a powder...much easier and then I'm not no heart guard lumps left in his stomach

Is this what they look like? They aren't a pill but a soft type treat. I don't think you have to crush them into a powder. I think cutting them into forths will be fine

yes that's them. Figuratively speaking I meant crush into a powder. But really I meant tiny tiny pieces.
