White spot on yorkie eye Hello All, I noticed a white cloudy spot on my 4 year yorkie eye. She is turning 5 in January. I noticed it was a small spot maybe 6-8 months ago. And now it's bigger. I asked the vet about her eye and he said that it was probably from hair scratching her eye and it will probably go to her other eye. I currently don't see any signs on her other eye and I try to make sure her hair isn't poking her eye. Has anyone dealt with this issue? Please click on link to see photo of her eye https://www.dropbox.com/s/p6758r2ijq...%2021.jpg?dl=0 I appreciate any responses Thank you |
A white spot/cloudiness like that, with the placement, is usually scarring from an corneal ulcer. I would take her to an opthamologist to determine if it is that or a cataract. Did she have any problems with that eye like squinting or irritation? |
Not sure where my original response to this post is, that I did just previously, however I will to it again. Sorry to hear about the issue you are trying to solve about your almost 5yo yorkie. Unfortunately, I couldn't open the pic you uploaded:( I'm sure that it's due to my lack of techology. Although I am no expert, by any stretch of the imagination, after reading your post I have a few questions: 1) If the vet stated it may be hair, how does the other eye get affected, as you said the hair isn't long enough to reach the eyes? I could see if it was one eye effected, as cutting hair around the eyes, a small piece could get into the eye. and, 2) Have you looked at glaucoma as a possible cause? I don't want to scare you, but thought I'd throw it out there. Sending positive thoughts your and your sweet baby's way and hope that you find out the reason for your issue. Cheers! |
Yuna Hi Maximo, Thank you for your response. She does squint at times and it is often red. That eye definitely has the most discharge. I have tried eye drops to no avail. Quote:

Yuna Hello JuiannaB, Thank you for your response. It is a white cloudy spot on the side of her pupil. I wasn't so sure about what the vet said since it didn't seem like hair causing it. I probably need to look for another vet. I really hope it isn't anything serious but I will look into all possible causes. Quote:
