Greasy hair What do ya'll recommend for greasy hair? Even after we bathe our Yorkie, her hair still looks greasy.:( Pam |
What hair products do you use? Shampoo, conditioner, and anything else? Pups with silky coats I think can look a little greasy when they are young. Hair products can make it worse. I couldn't use any brushing sprays on Max, and I had to use a very light conditioner in the bath. His first year or two, he didn't need much. If it is a really greasy look, this can be related to a skin/health problem. |
Greasy hair & skin can mean seborrhea: Skin Disease (Canine Seborrhea) in Dogs | petMD Seborrhea is a secondary condition & can often led to skin infections. Princess' is triggered by allergies & she's allergic to Lamb also, it makes her itching & seborrhea worse. She has a mixture of both, greasy hair & dry scabby looking flakes. She's also had numerous skin scrapings to rule out other skin issues. I used to use RX shampoo & conditioner vet prescribed, but it didn't do much. I tried Hylyt shampoo & conditioner, it has fatty acids & is coconut cleanser based...wonderful & not RX. I bathe her weekly to keep her skin & hair clean & wash her paws daily to remove any allergens. Lately I've been using baby wipes & that seems to work well too. |
Does she have any skin issues that you can see? Sometimes the body will release more oils if the skin is dry. You may want to try supplementing w/ either coconut oil or fish oil...I like Ark Naturals Royal Coat for fish oil bc it already has the needed Vit E in it, so you don't have to give it in addition. |
