after spay 14 day NO BATHS??? WHY GOD? WHY??? Do you know why it is that we are supposed to wait 14 days before we bathe Izzy after her spay? Her incision is actually healed up quite nicely and she really needs one. her hair just immediately starts knotting up no matter how often i brush it and that waterless shampoo isn't worth two cents compared to a bath. What is the science behind this rule? it's been since the 12th , so 8 days now since her surgery. And all I want to do is bathe her. She stands at the side of my bathtub while I shower whining at me and trying to get in, so I know we are on the same page here... Ill probably wait like I'm supposed to, but I would like to know the science behind this rule. Or even just opinions on it. |
I'm not sure of the exact reason, but I'm sure it's to avoid infection. Everyone heals differently and at different rates so they probably overestimate the length of time just to be safe. It's probably fine before then, but they want to be extra cautious not cause any problems. |
I would wait, even though you really want to bathe her. Have you tried baby powder as a dry bath? It gives a nice smell and works well. The reason for waiting is you don't want the incision to get wet/soft and then be compromised, allowing infectious agents to get in the microscopic areas that are still mending or just barely mended. |

I get to finally give Izzy a bath after 14 tangled, messy, crunchy, slobbered on , throwed back and pitiful days without one. This makes me happy. Cause she cries and cries to get into the shower every day and I hate denying her good hygiene. Just thought I'd share that with you |
yippie, Izzy will no longer look (and smell) like a homeless lady. Lucky you that Izzy loves her baths. |
whats funny is that after i gave izzy her long thorough bath and conditioned and brushed her hair under water until she was perfectly untangled, i didn't drain the water right away and Toby(sumo) went nosing around in the bathroom. Next thing i know I hear a big splash and look in the bathroom to see him splashing around in the tub like it was the thing to do...lol. So my friend Cami went in and proceeded to bathe him since he was obviously in the mood. I figured he would have jumped right back out but nope.... so that is a good sign for future Sumo grooming. :D |
lol, that's really great, at such a young age to jump in tub containing water and not be scared by it, awesome. Smart lil / big guy. wonder what would happen if you put both in at same time  would they play in a tub of water lol? |
oooh! that is a good idea!Im gonna try that! |
3 Attachment(s) yay she looks human again! So to speak... instead of looking like a walking dreadlock:D |

She gets that from my side of the family. She is the epitome of a little lady. Someday I'm gonna get those noises she makes on video. She's dainty and cute |
