Couple of questions about 'season' [B]Sorry all if these have been posted somewhere else, but i have spent ages looking and need to get started on an assignment for uni!!! Firstly, Treacle is now 8 1/2 months old and has not had her first season. She appears swollen down below. Is that a sign?? Secondly, over the weekend she suddenly started weeing on the carpet, miles from her pads etc??? Any ideas what this could be, could it be related to coming into season?? or is she just misbehaving!!! LOL Thirdly, anyone got any hints on stopping barking at just about everything!!! She sits and watches a leaf fall from a tree and barks like mad at it, its driving us all loopy!!!!! Finally, I notice from this site that yorkies come in varying sizes but I wanted to ask if she is overweight. She weighs around 8.8lb!! She doesnt appear fat but appears long??? If I didnt have the pedigree I would be convinced she is part sausage dog!!!!! Thanks as always for your advice Treacles Mummy! |
Different dogs come in at different times. I've heard them come in as young as 5 months and as old as 14 months for their first time. Contrary to popular belief, I believe that yorkie females do mark their area. Possible that she is doing this...especially if she swollen...but you'd definitely be able to tell for sure if she is indeed in heat...there's no mistaking the size of it. Maybe she's just starting the changes. |
Thirdly, anyone got any hints on stopping barking at just about everything!!! She sits and watches a leaf fall from a tree and barks like mad at it, its driving us all loopy!!!!! I use a coffe cann that has some coins in it and when they bark I shake it to and they imediatly stop barking. Hope this helps |
Questions I have found the same thing as txshopper73 - my two girls came into heat for the first time at 10 and 11 months - but every littermate to one of them came in at 6-7 months so it just varies. And they tend to pee more when they are coming into and during their heats and I think she is right - I hadn't thought about it but it does seem like they are marking their territory. As far as the barking goes I would also like to know what might work - mine also bark alot!! They have gotten better as they have gotten older but still... :) |
