Blue Wilderness Has anyone done research on Blue Wilderness dog food or have an opinion on this brand? |
I haven't personally done research but I do know plenty of people who feed it here and seem to love it. Maybe you could post the ingredients of the one you're considering...if you want people to take a look, that is..? |
I fed the BB wilderness for puppies to Toki when she was younger. And my sister fed the small breed Wilderness to her older yorkie (a picky eater)...we've never had issues with it and the pups did fine. I think it's a decent food...kind of pricey though compared to other similar foods but one of my top picks at Petsmart (also you might check out Wellness Core...higher protein/grain-free line from Wellness and similar to Wilderness). If you're looking at other grain-free foods, I like Fromm a lot...we always come back to it and have been feeding the lamb and salmon tunalini formulas most recently...great company, food, and price if you have it available near you. |
I fed Joey Blue Wilderness with life source bits, and he reacted really bad to the food and his eye started draining really badly. We went off the food and his eyes cleared up after a week or so, went back on the food and the same thing happened, not just tears, but brown goopy discharge. We then went back to his normal food. I'm not sure what in the food caused the problem. |
Not a huge fan of Blue Buffalo. Quality control is questionable, lots of dogs w/ GI problems... vomiting issues, throwing up, etc. They're made in like 5 different plants/facilities. A few of the foods are very high in ash. Just very mediocre but spouting in advertising to be a lot better than they actually are. |
Wylie's Mom: I tried to post the ingredients but I kept getting an error message that says the message contained too many characters. I'll try again. I guess this dog food choice is greatly determined by personal opinions and pet preferences. What works for me and my pack may not be tolerable or acceptable to another. There are some great dog foods out there. My top 2 choices are Blue Buffalo and Wellness. I have a pregnant bitch and I'm trying to give her the best possible food. I think I just need to decide and see how she reacts. I also have a senior who needs a good senior formula. Thank you all for responding. I appreciate your time. |

I'm not a fan after hearing about them knowing there was an issue that was making dogs sick and the issue wasn't resolved and a members dog had really bad tummy issues because of it. I just don't trust them and my dog hated the little added things with the " good stuff in them". |
Might want to check this out http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-food-now.html |
I have been feeding Blue Buffalo for several years and three vets have recently told me that BB charges premium prices for food that they don't consider "premium". They all told me it was their opinion that the scientific research and quality control is lacking. Just thought I would pass that on. I switched to Wellness for one and the other is now on a prescription liver diet. |
Everyone has provided me with great info and I so appreciate you. But today I read a post by "mimimomo" who shared information about a potential lawsuit against Blue for mislabeling . They are accused of using by-products when their label shows no by-product. I was so happy that I thought that I had finally found a reputable premium food and now I'm not so sure. I plan to return the Blue products to Petsmart and will probably consider Wellness or Royal Canin. Any suggestions or comments? I don't have the patience to wait for Blue to defend themselves or try to re-direct liability by finger pointing. Nancy1999: I saw you also commented on "mimimomo's" post. Also, I'm going to take into consideration what you said about not needing senior food. Right now I purchase 3 types of food, regular, senior and puppy food for my bitch. |

Lovetodream88: I am in 100% agreement with you! They're all about money and trying to disparage the competition. I only recently switched to Blue based on recommendation, advertising claims, and the desire to feed my dogs premium food. I'll be back at Petsmart tomorrow returning all of the Blue products. I did some research tonight and came across this article from 5/2014 regarding Purina's claims about Blue. Blue Buffalo advertising draws long history of complaints - VIN |
Lovetodream88: I followed your link and read the thread about Blue Buffalo! Wow! I only wished that I had read more before I switched my babies. The only advice that I received from Blue was to make sure that my dogs ate the "dark nuggets" as well as the regular ones. OMG! What have I done to my babies? I've only used Blue for about a week and I'm actually still in transition because I never rush a food change, I make it slow and gradual Hopefully, they won't have side effects especially my pregnant bitch and her fetuses! No Blue for breakfast! I'll cook them chicken and rice! |
Update! I returned Blue Buffalo to Petsmart and my pack now eats Wellness supplemented with Fresh Pet chicken and vegetables. I feel so much more confident with my choices. The last day that my dogs ate Blue Buffalo, my 11 yr old had diarrhea. I understand that it could have been due to transition since they had only been on Blue Buffalo for 4 days but I'm still glad that I found a new food that I'm comfortable with. Thanks to all you YT members that provided info that helped me make an informed decision. Love my YT community! :thumbs up |
