Healthy supplements. So I've decided that I want to add supplements to my babies diet to help with skin, coat, and overall health. So far all that I landed on was cocnut oil and fish oil. What do you guys use? What are the benefits. I've also been researching the benefits of coconut oil and came across cocothearpy virgin pet coconut oil. Is all virgin cold pressed coconut oil good for dogs? If anyone else uses coconut oil how do you administer it? If I want to use both coconut oil and fish oil can I just put both on her food at the same time ? Lana is 7 months old and I just want her to have a long healthy life with me so any advice would be amazing |
I like using both fish oil and coconut oil - I alternate them...one day I might do fish oil, the next day coconut. For fish oil, I really prefer Ark Naturals Royal Coat (get at Amazon) bc it already has the needed Vit E in it, which is necessary to process the fish oils and break them down. For coco oil, I think you just want the cold pressed, organic, virgin oil. If you want general supplements, I like Nature's Farmacy for those. |
Thanks ! I've read that the serving size should be 1 teaspoon for every 10 lbs (coconut oil) my baby is 5.7 lbs I was thinking to just give her 1 teaspoon or should I just give 1/2 teaspoon to be safe? |

I use fish oil daily for both pups...it was recommended by my vet for not only better skin/coat but also helps with joint inflammation. I used to supplement the pups with small amounts of coconut oil but now I use that more for topical stuff like minor skin irritations and things like that (really fabulous stuff to have on hand for both pups and humans). For other health issues, I also do joint supplements (currently Cosequin) for Toki due to hip/knee issues...I'm not sure if they actually help but it certainly doesn't hurt and she's doing great. And we also give Toki denamarin or milk thistle as well for her mild MVD...helps with repairing and protecting the liver...her liver values at check-ups ever since we started that have been good! But with Teddy who doesn't have any kind of health issues (except dry skin in the winter), I just feed high quality foods and supplement with the fish oil...nothing fancy :) |
