Do dogs get poison ivy? Yikes! 3 patches of bumps . 3 bumps in each patch ...laying on her back on my lap...one patch on stretch of skin above knee's and a tiny patch in "fold" at base of pee pee pod:) Ooooo....poison ivy?! |
Poor Zoey! Is she itchy? Vet Medicine says dogs do not react to poison ivy: Do Dogs and Cats Get A Poison Ivy Rash? But maybe Yorkies are different? I can confirm what the article says about dogs carrying the irritating oils in their coats and transferring them to humans. That happened to my brother who ended up in the hospital after our dog picked it up in the woods. I don't have any other ideas what might have caused the patches on Zoey. |
Not so much itchy as licky Probably due to where it was located . Last night I dabbed it good with cortizone cream and she slept by my side . That way I can feel every move she makes. Don't want her licking ..boy that soothed her right away , she fell right to sleep and slept all night. Morning came and it was almost gone, just a little redness...amazing . I read that about getting it from them ....her little belly is close to the ground, and I get that stuff so easy! So far so good.....whew! She want s to play her piano ...... |
Happy to hear the patches disappeared. LOL, playing her piano. Such a doll! |
Their fur coat decreases the probability that their skin will be exposed. Treatment for poison ivy poisoning in dogs is normally alike in the way humans are handled, and moderate plights can go away on their own. This article https://www.everydayhealth.com/poison-ivy/ also provides us with some good information about the toxic plant and some good Symptoms and Relief. |
I agree with the above answer. the thick fur will hold the poison and then they lovingly pass it to you and the couch and it goes on and on. If your dog is exposed to it, wash them asap before letting them run around the house. |
