New Baby- We recently lost our 14 year old, Chance...after a reasonable grieving period, we welcomed Mr. Chip into our home. Here's the thing- This little guy is smaller than Chance ever was. He weighed in at the Vet yesterday at 1.8 pounds at 10 weeks old- perfect health (Thank God)- The breeder had him started on a diet of Stella and Chewy’s Freeze Dried Chicken. From what I'm reading, this is a good choice, but maybe not for our very little guy? We fed our other guy cooked free-range organic chicken mixed with olive oil and Paul Newman's pellets- Thinking we will start him on the same-any thoughts on very small pellets (kibble)? |
Stella and Chewy's is *excellent*! If he's doing well on it, gosh, I wouldn't change a thing. It's a great food - in my opinion, much better than Newman's. |
When I first got Gracie she refused to eat the food her breeder had her on and then continued to refuse all kibble no matter what I did with it. I started home cooking for her which at least got her eating on a regular basis. The whole situation got me looking into pet foods and I found out more than I had bargained for. After researching the kibble making process extensively I decided that Gracie was smarter than me when it came to eating sensibly. I found Stella & Chewy's and she loved it. I feel better feeding her a good quality raw diet for many reasons. I do from time to time make her a few meals at home but mostly she is on S&C's Any nutritionist will tell you that you cannot substitute synthetic vitamins for the real nutrition of real foods and the nutrition is at it's highest when the food is as close to it's original source as possible. This is true for humans and animals. Fresh frozen or freeze dried food keeps the food at it's very highest level of nutrition and it has not had the nutrition cooked out of it as is done in the kibble making process. Always wash your hands after handling any raw meat product and make sure you keep the dishes well cleaned. Gracie has done really well on S&C's. We have tried other brands but always end up back with S&C's. Did your pup have a problem with it? |
He's thriving on it...we asked the Vet-and...she's a bit old-fashioned...says Purina is fine-BUT... i did the research on S&C and it makes sense to us- He's gaining weight normally after a little bout with Kennel Cough when we first brought him home- weighed in at 2.8 pounds at 15 weeks today... I think we are going to keep him on it for now- we supplement it with Eukanuba Excel Puppy kibble-but he seems like he's always hungry-constantly grabbing acorns, leaves-anything he can- I guess thats normal- we hadnt had a puppy in almost 15 years! We are going to let him have a little chicken broth and cooked chicken breast here and there-but so far so good! |
