Bad Skin Allergy Hi everyone, My Minnie she has bad skin allergy and suffered hair lost and bad rashes this summer. Vet prescribed her antibiotic, allergy liquid medicine, also gave her omega 3 supplement, and frontline. Her skin rashes were gone in 3 days. Amazing. However, I do NOT want to keep her on medicine all the time. She also has dry skin issue. Could anyone suggest me: 1. Any type of dry food is great for skin allergy? 2. Any supplement is good for allergy/dry skin problem? Which brand? 3. Should I use special shampoo for her skin issue? 4. Does canned food help with allergy issue? Thank you so much for your advice. |
Hydrolyzed dog food RC hydrolyzed or Purina HA are two to ask your vet about. Allergies are miserable, we home cook for Daisy and she has been on Atopica since she was 6....she's now 14! |
Most allergy dogs are on a fish oil bc omega oils help support the skin and decrease inflammation in general. I like Ark Naturals Royal Coat bc it already has the needed Vit E in it - I get it on Amazon. For food, I'd suggest at least a lower carb / higher protein type food or the one that 107barney suggested above. Just keep in mind that if her allergies are enviro, food isn't going to change that result much at all. For baths, you may want to use Duoxo - this is the one most Vet Derms sell; you can get it on Amazon for about 1/4 the cost that the vets charge. |
2 of mine had horrible skin allergies to food - we switched their shampoo to just Johnson's baby Shampoo the purple one, & their food to Hill's SD Prescription canned & kibble D/D Salmon & they are doing AWESOME!!! They actually had hair loss & itched sooo bad...now their hair is thick & beautiful & no more itching!!! |
