Not eating Trinket is 10 1/2 weeks, I have had her over a week now and she had a healthy appetite but now she is hardly eating I changed her from what her breeder was feeding (Pedigree Puppy :-( ) to Organix dry puppy and Organix canned. She was enjoying both but now she will not touch the puppy food and just nibbles at the other. :-( I supplement with Nutrical as she is only 1 lb 3 oz |
From your other thread, she may be constipated. Is she looking bloated? Try the cotton ball (warm water and moist) and gently rub her anus to stimulate her to poo. Once she poos her appetite will return... if that is the problem. If that doesn't help, I'd get her to the vet tonight. |
She has had two bowel movements this morning and has been having at least 2 a day so I am not thinking she is constipated. She acts fine, full of life and happy. |
Mine is 4 mos and his appetite fluctuates. When he has a growth spurt then he eats more then eats less (his regular amount), She is too tiny to risk her not eating. Make sure she is drinking. She maybe starting to cut teeth so mash some of the dry with a towel over the food with a hammer or grind up and add some water and some of the wet food to make it kinda mushy. She may eat it that way I had to do that til about 12 weeks then he could eat all dry food. |
Thanks, I have been moistening the dry kibble and putting it in the wet trying to get her to eat it. I leave it out and she just nibbles throughout the day. I had to start leaving it out just so she would eat it as it was worrying me. |
Don't keep her on a schedule for eating, she is too small. She should always have food and water available to her. Mine snacks on the food all day. I measure out his food for the day so I can track how much he is eating. She should be eating at least 1/4 to 1/3 cup for the day right now. They won't over eat, you don't have to worry about that. If she has food available to her at all times even during the night she will not be hypoglycemic. Is she in a pen at night with access to food and water? |
Try sprinkling some Parmesan powder on her food, it's nice and pungent and can stimulate a dog to eat. You may need to change foods though....are you using the same protein source as her previous food? |

And yes she is on a much better quality food than she was on before so protein is better in new food |
I have one like that. Oh the time I went thru trying to get her to eat. I thought she was a picky eater ....turned out she has a sensitive stomach. She collapsed one day and was on Iv's for two days. Don't know why. Too many switches?? Miracle dog food that brought her out of it? Hills rx ID canned. Same thing in a dog treat. She is like a different dog. Eats twice a day , and playful beyond belief. You can tell she FEELS SO much better. I am looking around for a grain free limited ingredient because I believe rotation is important but I will start with the treats. She was tested for pancreatitis and does not have. It's not normal for a dog not to eat, maybe the food is not agreeing with them. Good luck |
