Orijen dog food.. thoughts? After my attempt at home cooking and a vomiting/diarrhea situation (http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...rowing-up.html) .. I've decided to put Chloe back on puppy food. What are your thoughts on Orijen? I purchased Orijen puppy food and a little bit of Weruva canned food. From the research that I did these look to be high-quality foods. My question is about the protein amount in Orijen, though. Is it too high or is it ok? There was no phone service in the store so I couldn't log in to yorkietalk to ask earlier, lol. :p I really liked the idea of home cooking but I guess it scares me because all of her nutrition falls on me and things like vomiting and diarrhea can happen. I felt very guilty about it because she cried when she was throwing up.. and I don't want that to happen again. I rather know that she's eating a high quality food that is already balanced for her needs. |
great food though I wasn't sure about the whole too much protein debate either. Ali had issues with the food at first, now at 9 months she is fine. I give her Acana which is made by same company but not quite as high in protein content. In the pm I give her Freshpet roasted chicken which has some veggies and grains in it. Trying to cover all my bases here ;) Just remember tiny bit at a time to change her over. I used it just as a treat first then started adding to food. good luck! |
I prefer Acana over Orijen. I have heard more then twice of yorkies getting bloody poo while being on Orijen. |
chester is on acana, he is almost 12 so I don't want the high protein that orjien has, they are both great foods, he gets weruva canned |
Most of Katie's food is high protein, since she is on a home cooked diet. However, she eats kibble at times. I feed Orijen or Fromm, sometimes mixed together, other times separate. If a pup is healthy and has an uncompromised liver, a high protein diet shouldn't be a problem. If you are concerned, Acana is a good choice, too. |
I don't think you need a high protein dog food. I've fed a moderate protein diet to my dogs throughout their lives. I would avoid canned for Chloe. I think you should pick a middle of the line approach for her and watch the fat. A 10-mo old puppy very ill from lean ground beef (~15% fat Max) is a walking pancreatitis risk in my opinion. |
I have my dog on Acana puppy and when he's a year next month will move to Acana for small breed adults. We did consider Orijen but thought Arcana was better but I can't remember why! I will ask hubby and let you know! |
The Orijen went back to the store. Chloe refuses to eat anything now besides home made food... I created a monster :eek: |
