Help!! Switching from dry to wet food !! I have a 3 pound yorkie who is 7 years old. She's soo tiny and losing her teeth. I switched to what looked like a savory wet dog food she did fine with it. Mealtime had never been more exciting before this! But 2 weeks later she got really bad dirrahea. I called the vet. They said give her rice and chicken. So I did that. Plus scrambled a little egg too. Did this for about 9 days. Diarrhea went away. She was looking great. Happy. Then bought some food from petsmart in the refrigerated section. It was in a long tube like thing called Vital fresh food. . I cut it in slices and froze them I SLOWLY integrated this food into her rice-egg-chicken scramble. And SLOWLY STARTED lessening the rice and egg. Again about 10 days into this - she gets really bad diarrhea I'm back on rice-egg and chicken. Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong? What food should I feed her? |
When was your precious girl's last check up w/the vet? Full blood panel, urinalysis & possibly fecal test should be done since she's entering early senior hood (but she's probably spunky like a puppy!). It's best to rule out any GI issues or any underlying illness that might be causing the tummy upsets. Vet might prescribe RX food or recommend a limited ingredient food, depending on her condition. When we got our little guy and didn't know better, he ate Cesar as a supplement to his dry food. Bad idea, because it made him bloated and eventually caused some tummy upset. He gets a teaspoon of Blue Buffalo wet food mixed with water as a treat every now and then. He goes wild over it - favorites are lamb and salmon. I would really recommend their food, because of the healthy, natural ingredients, but as the previous poster said, check with your vet. |
Royal Canin has a canned senior food.....I have a senior on it because she has lost almost all her teeth....she loves it..no problems with bloating, gas, or loose stools. Like any change in diet, integrate it gradually.....they have a senior kibble you could mix the canned with...it is softer, easier to chew and digest....the kibble may keep her stools firmer. |
You need a prescription from your vet but Hill's Prescription ID may be what you need. |
Okay!! This helps a bit! She had been examined by a vet a month ago. But no tests were done. Sadly I fed her the Cesar stuff which is not like me at all to do that. But it looked so yummy !! With the canned dog food that Yorkiemom1 suggested---like I said she's 3.1 ounces. Do I just refrigerate the rest? |
