UTI; what are the symptoms besides frequent peeing Never have I had a dog or foster with UTI except for Katie who already had stones (PTL she's all good now). Uni's vajayjay is red on one side. Does UTI show symptoms on the outside? She's always been one to not pee much during the day. (NO red ish pee at all.) She's eating fine, playing fine, but licking her vajayjay a lot and once scooted her butt today. Not in her 7 years has she needed an anal gland expressing or had a UTI. I put coconut oil on it. Until now seems to have solved everything. When I put some on her now, she seems to flinch. Gave her a 1/4 tab of zirtec for itchness (what I thought it was); also we are renovating the house and there is saw dust everywhere. Maybe she sat on some saw dust and it irritated her? She's been less than 100% since this afternoon. Vet or wait and see? |
I'd give her a little time, like 1-2 days as long as it doesn't get worse and she continues to act/eat/play normally. UTIs are internal, and blood in the urine is common with them. I'm thinking a bug bite or irritation from her licking... |
Vet. Why wait? The dog is obviously uncomfortable. |
If Uni didn't have urinalysis recently, I would get that done asap. When Princess & Momo had struvite crystals (not sure if they had UTI), they licked their privates a lot. They also had slight fevers... |
Th redness is going away and she's licking a lot less. I'm thinking it's the saw dust in the house. I'm actually a lot itchier than usual too. If she gets worse I'll make sure she gets a urinalysis. |
Poor Uni. I'm glad she is showing improvement. Can you designate a no dust room/put up plastic sheeting? Don't make it airtight, of course, which wouldn't be healthy either. I would worry about the pups inhaling the dust too. |
We are doing the first floor. But when we come home from being out, she comes downstaris to meet us. I don't like to confine her. She doesn't do well with confinement LOL. Plus she is 100% potty trained, and if she needs to go while we are gone, she hops in a shower or tub. That's how we trained her as a pup. I think she sat on some saw dust the other day bc now she won't go downstairs and sit. She will only sit on the part of the stairs that still have carpet on them. |
Glad to hear she's doing better! |
Hope Uni continues to improve! All that saw dust is irritating...we were here when they did the counter tops & I had to vacuum & use the swiffer stick w/a microfiber cloth everyday. BTW, this works awesome (swiffer stick + microfiber cloth- wet or dry), it picks up so much dust! |
