Arched lower back Hi all, My 8 month old puppy seemed off to me so I took her to the vet. Her lower back is a bit arched and she sits a lot while walking place to place and her tail is between her legs most of the time. They thought she had a parasite but poop came back negative. Then I took her back as I realized her anal glands were full. They emptied them for her yesterday morning. She's very playful and wags her tail with any interaction. I just thought she would have been back to her normal self by today but she's not. I have noticed the same odor coming from her backside that we smelled before she was emptied. Do you think she still has more that they didn't get or do you think there may be something more going on? Just wondering if anybody has had anything similar. Going to call the vet again for her 3rd visit but hoping to hear something hear that maybe I can share at her next appt. Its so frustrating when they say she's not in any pain but you know there is definitely something bothering them. I appreciate any ideas. Thx... |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Sorry your baby is having trouble. It is possible for the anal glands to refill very quickly when there is a problem. I would have the vet take another look. Max had this problem briefly when he was a pup after the vet manually retrieved a stool sample. He had his glands manually expressed once, and then I added a few baby sweet peas (1/4 teaspoon) to his dinner to give his stool a little more bulk. That solved the problem and he has never been manually expressed since. He doesn't need the peas anymore either. Sometimes a little bit of fiber (peas or green beans) added to the diet are all a dog needs. Some dogs need to be manually expressed all of their lives. |
Thanks so much. I will call and have him look at them again. |
