Arcana for puppies Hi all, My 9 month old boy eats 1.2oz (35g) food per day split in 2 meals. I can feel his ribs, spine and hips but can't figure out if he's underweight or ok? I tried a dog bmi link but it said he would only be healthy or at the 'correct weight' when he weighs 7lbs as he is 9'' tall. Currently, he's 3.6lbs and very happy so I would think he's mildly underweight if at all? I was thinking about increasing his food to 1.4 oz (40g) a day and he also has cream cheese or peanut butter in the day as a snack (1tbs max of each). Obviously, the vet will know but just wanted your responses to see if you feed similar size/aged dogs a similar amount, more or less? Thanks! |
Hi. Lexi is 6 months old and weighs about the same as yours. I give her 1/4 cup (2 ounces) dry mixed with a little bit of wet in the morning and then the same in the evening. She usually eats it all, but sometimes leaves a little bit behind. |
Hello Thanks for your response but its concerned me as you're feeding your baby in one meal what mine eats in a day! According to the instructions from the food, Im feeding him enough but my gut instinct tells me he needs more. Guess I should check in with the vet! |
I forgot to mention I feed Lexi blue buffalo puppy food. Different food has different guidelines. Mine says 1/4-1/2 cup a day for up to 5 pound adult weight. So she eats on the high end of that. I am assuming you are feeding the acana small breed puppy. Looking at those feeding guidelines you should be feeding between 1/4-1/3 cup a day so you are definitely feeding the right amount based on what it says, but it wouldn't hurt to check with your vet just to be sure. |

I called the vet today and they said just bring him in as expected. Im fiercely protective of him because he's so small. |

I bathed him today and thought about taking a picture from the top to post on here for opinions but then I thought I was just over reacting. Most of the problem, I think, is that I can't trust my own opinion!!! |
