Car sick
 

My 7.2 lbs furbaby gets so car sick, even just going to the vet she will throw up several times. I have tried everything. My friend has my yorkies half sister and she does the same thing, they give her a motion sickness pill called Motion Sickness Relief 25mg. they purchase them from the Dollar General Store. Before I try the same thing I was wondering if anyone else uses over the counter medicine to prevent their little one from getting so sick?

we just drove 18 hours to FL with our puppy who also gets motion sickness from the car. Prior to leaving he had very little water and food. I also purchased a puppy booster seat and I gave him a 1/4 of Benadryl which he licked and refused to chew. I must say he was quite comfortable in his booster seat. He slept and we took him out to potty everytime we stopped for gas. I read online prior to leaving that you should keep the temp in the car comfortable and crack a window to balance the noise. I was nervous at first traveling with our fur baby, but he did good for the first time in a car and he didn't throw up once. Good luck!

Is she is puppy? My Doodlebug used to get carsick too when he was a puppy but now that he's older he loves car rides. I'm not sure about giving an OTC medication without contacting your vet before hand.

My adopted boy 3 y/o would get car sick. He only went to vet, early morning appointments so I held back food and water and he would still vomit, his muzzle would be soaking went from all his panting . The vet gave me Meclizine 12.5 mg to to given on an empty stomach 30 minutes before traveling . I have never used them. So the only time I would take the poor thing in the car was for vet visits only. The first week in June I bought a booster seat from Pet Supplies Plus, It has no stabilizer leg that goes from the booster seat to passenger seat, it is off the seat, hooks over the head rest and around the seat back. Cody eats at 7AM, when I go out it's between 10 and 11 am. He has not gotten car sick since he has his booster seat. Now when I say Cody goes bye bye in the car, he runs to where his harness is instead of running under the bed, when we get to the car he sits and waits for me to open the door, pick him up and set him in the booster seat instead of seeing the car and heading the other way and I would have to fetch him. He sits in his booster seat like a lil king, looks out of the windows, not panting, no vomiting, there is enough room for him to curl up and take his little nappy. I am one happy camper. Now where ever I go I take him with me, and he now LOVES the car.

my pup is 4 months old, she loves going in the car so I know it isnt that she is afraid at all, it is car sickness. The vet told me to with-hold her food and water but she will vomit foam then, I have tried different carriers but not the car seat mentioned above (I will have to check into that), I have tried letting her lay in the back seat, on my lap and she still gets sick. I bought some of the pills yesterday and I am going to give her a quarter pc of one this weekend instead of the whole pill like my friend does and try that. I am hopeful that she will grow out of it. Over the long holiday weekend I tried the pills, even a whole pill and it didnt work either :( She got sick 5 times again by the time we got home. I talked to the vet and now I am not sure what we can do, hope she outgrows it I guess. :confused:

I have one that gets car sick. Nothing helps, it's horrible taking him anywhere. Your vet can give him ace pro for car rides that are long. I can't use this because my dog has epilepsy and that drug lowers the threshold for seizures. The other thing our vets have suggested is benadryl. I bought a thunder cap recently, I am hoping that might work.

Please update on the thunder cap, I hate to buy all the things and them not work. Looks like you are in the same boat.

Car Sick
 

Scarlet would do fine until the car stopped after driving at highway speeds. She grew out of it by about age 2. Shelly is 14 months and throws up if she falls asleep or can't see out. Good luck.

The booster seat I purchased at Pet Supplies is called "Tagalong Pet Booster seat" Cost is $40. plus tax. A small investment if you like to bring lil furbutt along with you. You can google it to see what it looks like. Try it for several trips, if pup still gets sick you can always return to Pet Supplies, I kept a towel in the seat in case he got sick. Cody weighs 12 lbs. I got the large size,holds up to 18 lb dog, this gives him room to curl up for naps, or hide from wind blowing in from open window. My feelings about car sickness is....pup sitting / laying on car seat feels every bump in the road, we as drivers are not always aware of these nor do we feel them, but our babies do. Reason for me selecting a booster seat that is raised OFF the seat, No STABILIZING leg that goes from the booster seat to passenger seat that will transfer these little road bumps onto the booster seat. Cody did so well his first week in the car with this seat I purchased another one for my pick up truck. Anyone that has traveled in a pick up truck knows the ride is not as smooth as a car, pick up trucks have a lot of bounce to them. I don't have a heavy F150 or a monster heavy crew cab. I have a front seat only, light weight truck, a lot of road bounce. Cody does great even in the truck. He looks out of the window, sitting like a proud king on a throne. NO CAR SICKNESS.He now LOVES his car rides. I don't use the meds my vet gave me, nor do I like to medicate my babies to take them for "just' a car ride. I would never use over the counter human meds unless I have checked it out with my vet , I don't care who uses it for their dog, each pup is different. Cody eats at 7AM, I am out at 10 or 11AM. I purchased the first seat the first week in June, the 2nd seat the 2nd week in June. I am in my car/truck 3 to 4 times a week, from short trips to 2 1/2 hour round trips and Cody comes with me, NO CAR SICKNESS. It is now one month we are using this seat and NO CAR SICKNESS. I am more then happy that I can take my lil boy with me where ever I go.
