question about rice I have a sick little Girl. Been to vet the last couple days with her. The Vet gave her injection for vomiting and said wait 8 Hrs before giving her food and water. I want to start back on bland died of boiled hamburger and rice. Sent Hubby to store and he brought back instant rice instead of cooking kind. My question is if instant is ok? It only has 5 mg of sodium. thanks |
I have used instant white rice for my boys without problem. Unless the health issue is something that would warrant against high-ish sodium, shouldn't be a problem. Sending well wishes to your little girl. |
thank you for your reply:thumbup: |
I never used instant rice. I like the cooking kind. The cooking rice seems to have more starch in it. Which is better for diarrhea. And also the instant has more sodium. |
I have used the instant white rice but I prefer regular .. |
Instant would be perfectly fine. Hope she is feeling better soon :) |
We used regular rice, not instant, when Bentley had a bad case of diarrhea, but he wouldn't touch it. Tried it with chicken broth, beef broth, and even mixed in with his own food but we wouldn't touch it (even ate around the rice when it was mixed with the kibbles!) |
Instant white rice is fine. I have given my instant brown rice, too- Never had an issue. |
I use instant and never had a problem. When Rosie has tummy issues it is boiled chicken and white rice. Not her favorite. Haha. Hope your baby feels better soon. |
I wouldn't use rice, grains and dogs just don't mix, use boiled chicken it's a much gentler protein, quinoa would be better as it's actually a seed not a grain if you felt you had to feed it at all. I would recommend a good probiotic along with a digestive enzyme and some boiled chicken and the water you boil the chicken in for drinking. Slipper elm bark powder is amazing for stomach upset. http://www.holvet.net/slippery_soup.html |

Quinoa is a pseudo-grain with some very gut disruptive properties (i.e. high saponin content). I would avoid and stick with the rice. By the way, dogs and grains DO agree, and, as recently pointed out by WOLF BIOLOGISTS, grains were the reason dogs evolved to be with humans and possible the reason for their domestication. I would do your own research as their is definitely a contradiction presented depending on whom you are reading and following. I personally, based on my research, do not agree that dogs should eat carbs or grains. I'm a raw feeder and the vets and nutritionists I read do not recommend it. But their are other nutritionists that practice home cooking and they suggest grains and vegetables. It would be completely your decision with your own dog. I am only offering my personal opinion. |

There is not enough active ingredients in a bit of yoghurt to have the same impact as a probiotic. Consisting of live bacteria. It stabilizes the good flora in the gut. I would question as to why they want yoghurt over probiotic given than many dogs have intolerances to dairy |
The OP has posted a RIP thread. :( |
