has anyone heard of Victor brand dog food? I live in a rural area and this is available locally, which is a major plus. I was thinking about trying it with Barney. He currently eats Anna's prescription diet food, but I am trying to up his calories. The feed store gave me a sample of Victor and he ate it as well as he's eaten any other dry food. I've looked on the web and can't really find a lot of information about it. Any information is welcome. |
I haven't used Victor. According to the advertisements it is manufactured in MT Pleasant, TX. Info from the sight sounds interesting. Hope you get a response from someone who has Morse knowledge about the company's ethics/food etc. |
Here is their site: Victor Super Premium Dog Food I think it looks like a very nice food! I prefer higher protein diets rather than higher carb diets, so I do like the looks of their foods. Lots of good choices too in ingredients/protein sources. Some find it helpful to write the company and ask where their products are being manufactured and whether they've had any recalls and where they purchase their meat sources (to make sure not from China). |

Thanks! I just sent an email. By the way, Barney loved the raw food, but it just isn't practical for us because we had to drive so far to get it. The freeze dried was a good option, but we couldn't keep Anna out of it. It's a blast having 2 dogs with totally different nutritional needs:). |
I just got an email back from them saying the food is sourced in the US. I googled this and this means that the products used to make the food are all from here, rather than the food just being made here. So I am going to give the salmon and sweet potato and trial run. |
Dog Food Reviews and Ratings | Dog Food Advisor gives the two formulations they rated 5 stars and 4 stars, which is very good, but then again, the dogfood advisor is a dentist, not a veterinary nutritionist . Well, where I live, the two are interchangeable. Just kidding, it's not quite that bad but close. I'll let everyone know how it goes. It would be really nice to be able to drive 5 miles to the feed store rather than 30 miles to get pet food. I know I could always order but Barney keeps forgetting to tell me when he's running low. I honestly can't find anything bad about this brand. Just hoping he'll actually eat it. |

So far (crossing my fingers) Barney is eating it. He's a very picky eater; so it's a big deal for him to finish his food. |
