Need advice on best/safest food for puppy Bringing home new puppy and need advice on what to feed him. Scared with all the bad press I read!!! Please help! Thanks so much! |
I think the best food is the one that works best with your pup. What works for others may not work for your pup. My new baby is 13 weeks old and I am feeding her Royal Canin. I have been happy with it. As far as the safest, I think home cooking is the safest. However, the recipes are for puppies one year and older unless you do a personal consult with a vet nutritionist. |
Start feeling your puppy what the breeder is feeding. You do not want to change food and environment at the same time. It is too much of a shock for them |
A lot of the "bad press" is mostly opinions and hype. Royal Canin is also what I feed and have for several years now. But I do agree you should feed what the breeder is feeding and if you want to change do is slowly especially with a puppy to give time to adjust. Good luck with your new puppy. :) |

Feed what the breeder is feeding for at least the 1st 3 weeks, until the puppy adjusts to the new environment. At that point, you could try slowly switching over to another food if you don't like the breeder's choice. Nature's Logic, Nature's Variety, Solid Gold, Wellness, Orijen, Acana...are a few brands that many people here like. |
