Canned Tuna??
 
I am still new and learning. Milo is 4 months and I have had him for 2 months. He never has tried to jump up on the cabinets while I am cooking, he normally lays by my feet. Last night I was making tuna and he went wild.
What in the world? Can yorkies eat Tuna in the can?

Yes....tuna, salmon, and sardines and my dogs adore kippers!

I would use only the Tuna packed in water, not the oil.

Fish is great for dogs, so yes they can have fish. Don't give tuna every day though bc of the mercury issue. Use the kind packed in water and get low salt if they have it.

You can cook them fish too - my dogs love tilipia, cod, sole, salmon etc.

I'll add to say that "chunk light" tuna is lower in mercury than the white albacore varieties. My dogs also like sardines, I buy them canned in water no salt added.

Never thought of sardines, what a great idea, they're so healthy! Good tip on the chunk light tuna.

Oh yes, they loooovvveee sardines! The only thing I learned recently is that dogs prone to certain bladder stones (calcium oxalate) should avoid sardines as it is one of the few fish that is high in oxalate.

If you have a trader joes nearby, that's where I get them salt free packed in water. Most sardines are country of origin Morrocco or Portugal and are wild-caught so I feel OK buying there.

I give Tuna to my cats on occasion but never thought about my dogs.

I wouldn't make it a regular staple in a dog's diet but no harm in a bit of canned tuna if it's packed in nothing but water. Oily fish once in a while is great, my dogs get raw smelts once in a while and dehydrated anchovies as treats.

Our Kenzie loves tuna! We've fed her like tiny bits not a lot cause we feared its not that good for Yorkies, the vet said its fine but you know, being extra cautious here.

We use the tuna that comes in a pouch, drained and ready to eat.
My question is:
Just the one in water? There's also one pouch that comes in extra virgin olive oil, also drained, can we feed her that one?
Have also read about the benefits of olive oils for dogs, but I'm also aware of pancreatitis and don't want her to get sick.

Tuna in water is fine. Ellie got chunk light as her only protein source for awhile (nutritionist's decision). Moderation, but it is fine...

Callie loves tuna I don't give it to her often but she goes crazy for it when I do.
