Welcome to YT! At that age, I really would feed her as much as she wants to eat. But I would stick to healthy kibble, and healthy snacks such as fruits and veggies. I wouldn't get in the habit of giving too many treats. I think at that age, I used to feed mine about 4 times a day. |
Welcome to YT. I agree with Capt Noonie. When she gets to around a year old, that is when I would establish a daily maximum quantity. The amount depends on the food you feed. Some foods are denser than others in calories per cup. All foods have feeding guidelines on the bag. I would feed less than is recommended because they tend to overestimate. Also depends on the activity level of the dog. |
You might just want to free feed as dogs who grow up free feeding will often self-regulate for life since they learn the behavior young. Very convenient. The only downside I see to it is there have been choking incidents with yorkies and kibble -- it can happen; so I don't know how you feel about that possibility. Many people here still free feed and their kiddos do fine, but just wanted to mention it. |
Here is a feeding calculator if you want to use one later: Dogs feeding chart - Nature's Logic |
Our Yorkies are about the same profile; Bentley is 21 weeks on Thursday and he's 5.3 lbs. We feed him twice a day, about 3/8 cup of small kibbles (Royal Canin) each feeding. We were feeding him 1/4 cup each time, but he would eat through it really quickly so we upped it about 2 weeks ago. He still goes through it really fast and we''ll probably up it to 1/2 cup each feeding. The only thing that has stopped us was his nasty bout of diarrhea over the weekend :( |
