Acana PORK & BUTTERNUT SQUASH. Anyone tried the Acana PORK & BUTTERNUT SQUASH? Thoughts? |
I personally would not feed my baby pork. |
I'm not so concerned about the pork aspect of this food...many dog foods are available that contain some pork or boar (like Royal Canin, Hill's, Orijen, Farmina, Fromm, etc) and we haven't had any issues feeding these (we of course don't feed anything like sausage or bacon in terms of pork products though). Haven't seen this formula in stores near me yet. You could get a little sample bag or two from your store and if your pup likes the food and does well on it, go for it. I thought it was great that Acana released a grain-free limited ingredient formula but it does seem pretty high in legumes. I would consider the fact that it has green lentils, red lentils, green peas, yellow peas, and garbanzo beans (a lot of ingredient splitting) so it makes you wonder how much pork is even in there. For that reason, I personally would probably look at other options just because Acana is expensive around here and I can get similar or better options at a cheaper price. |
Not impressed by these new Acana formulas at ALL. Jackson used to do so great on their foods. We fed Acana for 2+ yrs with great results. It's a shame they started doing so much ingredient splitting and adding sooo many legumes and peas. He did amazing on the duck and pear LID formula and they recently changed that too. I'm feeding Farmina right now and super happy w/ it, they don't do ingredient splitting, and have a low mineral content/low phosphorus/calcium/ash. |
What is the best Acana for Yorkies then? Someone told me that too much protein is not good for Yorkies. He said that the protein should be 25% to 27%. |
If I fed Acana, it'd probably be the Chicken and Burbank Potato formula... Teddy seemed to like that one a lot. My friend has a lab mix that is picky and sensitive to a lot of different foods and he does well with this formula as well. My sister used to feed the Regionals line (Pacifica, Wild Prairie, and Ranchlands) to her yorkie and her dog did well on them. But this was before Acana changed the Regional formulas and added more lentils so I'm not sure if they're as good...haven't tried them since. The Chicken and Burbank Potato would be my top pick...protein is 28%, fat is 17%....hopefully they won't change that formula too. |
